Re:Thinking ALOUD Diocese of Leicester

This week’s podcast explores the subject of Disability and the Church. The conversation will be between Emily Williams our diocesan Disability Advisor, Kay Morgan-Gurr who acts as a consultant to churches of various denominations around issues of disability and is a member of the Evangelical Alliance national council, and Wynn Rees, a parent of an adult son with Down's Syndrome. It engages with issues of theology, inclusion, and good practice to help churches think about how best to welcome and recognise the gifts of Christians and enquirers into faith who experience disability.

This week’s Re:Thinking Aloud podcast sees a panel comprised of Karen Rooms (Canon Missioner at Leicester Cathedral and Women’s Ministry Enabler for the diocese), Mirjam Ngoy (Leicester Cathedral Discipleship Officer), and Rob Miles (Rector, the Cornerstone team of churches) talking about how Christians can disagree well together. In an era when in the wider world and on social media disagreements often seem to be typified by entrenched positions and in which listening seems rarer than shouting slogans, how ought we to handle our disagreements within the church? How do we work out on what issues there is latitude for differing opinions and where there might not be? How do we hold together firm conviction with gracious engagement?

This week’s podcast, available now, sees diocesan Intercultural Ministry Enabler, Suzanne Hanson, in conversation with Jon as they talk about Black History Month which runs throughout October, about history’s missing voices, and how dominant narratives operate in the wider world and the church.
