    Hurdy Gurdy with Danny Pedler

In this episode, host Andrew Fisher throws open the doors of The Two Rivers Cafe to folk musician and all-round good egg Danny Pedler. Expert player of both the hurdy gurdy and accordion, Danny is a mainstay on the UK folk scene playing as 50% of Pedler Russell and as one third of Tarren. Go and see them live if you can!

    Christmas Special 2022

New for 2022! It’s (another) special Christmas edition of the Two Rivers Café.

Following last year’s debacle, this year producers Jim and Rupert successfully managed to deliver a Christmas lyric each to host and composer Andrew Fisher. And he worked some musical magic with them both.
The Two Rivers Café will return for a brand-new series of collaborations in 2023!

Special Edition 01 - Series One retrospective

Special Edition 01 - Series One retrospective

Do you remember those sit com episodes that were essentially just clips of previous episodes stuck together and then passed off as new content? Well, welcome to this special edition of The Two Rivers Café which tries to pull a fast one in exactly the same way.
But this isn't some massive fraud we're committing on your ears, this is the chance to hear all of the wonderful music from Series One of the podcast in one easily-digestible episode. PLUS! Host and co-creator of each piece of music, Andrew Fisher, gives you his thoughts on each one and provides a few insights as to their creation. No spoilers but let's just say he's pretty happy. Which makes a nice change. (This is a joke. Andrew is one the jolliest men you could meet).
It's all very lovely and certainly worth thirty minutes of anyone's time but especially yours.
And with your appetite whetted, please do help yourself to the original episodes from Series One which are available from exactly the same place that you found this one.

    S01 EP6: Bombard(e) with Helen Gentile

    S01 EP6: Bombard(e) with Helen Gentile

    Salut!
For this final episode in the first series of The Two Rivers Café Podcast we are in Brittany where guest Helen Gentile is playing the bombard. Or bombarde. (With an “e” in French, without an “e” in English). Or “talabard” in Breton.
Anyway, whatever you call it, Helen is very good at playing it and is even polite enough to laugh when host Andrew Fisher says that “it sounds a bit like a duck”.
Following an interesting conversation about how Helen ended up with the bombarde in her life, she and Andy collaborate on what can only be described as a formidable piece of music. Seriously, if this isn’t picked up by Netflix for the soundtrack to some sort of medieval frolic of a miniseries then something’s gone very wrong.
Helen’s current musical projects include 8-piece ceilidh band Threepenny Bit, 4-piece folk band Monkey See Monkey Do and a duo with fiddle player Lewis Wood.
Over the past 10 years, Threepenny Bit have released multiple albums, played at major festivals such as Sidmouth and Cambridge and have also been played on BBC Radio 2.
Monkey See Monkey Do have enjoyed reviews from established voices of the folk scene such as Mike Harding and Songlines and were booked for some reputable festivals last summer, including supporting Steve Harley at the South Downs Folk Festival. Meanwhile,
Helen’s duo with Lewis Wood is an exciting delve into balfolk repertoire which is manifested in their lockdown release ‘Alors, on danse!’

Helen also teaches woodwind (clarinet, flute, saxophone) although she doesn’t have any students for the bombarde… yet!!

    SO1 EP5: Jazz piano with J Fashole-Luke

    SO1 EP5: Jazz piano with J Fashole-Luke

Normally, people who wear sunglasses indoors are either Bono or just plain wrong (and you really don’t want to be any of these things) but for one week only composer, lyrist and handsome patron of The Two Rivers Café Dr. Andrew Fisher is giving you permission.

    Why? Is he mad?

    No, he’s jazz.

This week we’re delighted to welcome pianist, composer and all-round jazz supremo J Fashole-Luke to the Two Rivers Café and sunglasses are obligatory.

J has performed all over Europe at Festivals (including Montreaux, Vienne, North Sea and Vienna Jazz Festivals and in UK at Glastonbury, Bestival, Boomtown, Shambala and Isle Of Wight Festivals), He has accompanied members of Jurassic 5, Sugar Hill Gang, Tomorrow’s Warriors and All Saints. He played at The Millenium Dome in its opening year, and has also appeared at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and performed live on BBC2s Later With Jools Holland. Most recently he has been working with Chart topping UK vocalist Alexandra Burke and TV sensation Tallia Storm

There’s conversation and there’s music as Andrew and J collaborate a brand-spanking-new piece of work that they share towards the end of the episode.
