Martlet Podcast Vol 2: Ep 9

It's the summer at UVic, which means the end of the school year — a momentous occasion punctuated by convocation. All those fourth, fifth, and sixth year students are leaving the university, and so the Martlet stopped by a Fine Arts graduation ceremony to see what the big day meant to everyone. We also spoke to UVic's Chancellor Sheila Rogers and asked her about her role in convocation.

Thanks, as always, to the Martlet and CFUV for their help in producing this podcast.

    Enjoy the podcast.

Martlet Podcast Vol 2: Ep 8

The BC Election is almost upon us, and so we here at the Martlet podcast endeavoured to talk to three students about the party they are volunteering for this election. We spoke to Tessa Devakos (BC NDP), Tyler Faminow (BC Liberals), and Nick Noble (BC Greens), discovering why they identify with their party's platform and why they hope others do too.

It's probably worth mentioning that the guests on this week's podcast do not represent the views of The Martlet or CFUV. The guests are volunteers, too, so their views may not represent that of their parties — however they are volunteering with that party for a reason, and we hope those reasons are clear enough.

    Enjoy the podcast.

Come reside for 30 minutes with the Martlet Podcast as we discuss the sorry state of student housing in Victoria. We speak to Aleesha Koersen, a student at UVic who spent a month attending university while couchsurfing, Amanda Jane, the administrator of a housing group on Facebook, and Fred Haynes, a Saanich councillor who helps lobby the provincial government on the behalf of students.

Thanks again to the CFUV and the Martlet for their help in producing this podcast!

We hope this week's podcast will be music to your years, as we talk to three incredible UVic musicians who ply their trades in vastly different ways. You'll hear from Jackson Melenchuk (or Jacksxn), a DJ and producer; Bailey Finley (1/3 of Trio Taco), a flautist and student in the music program at UVic; and Hannah van Adrichem (Hansmole), a multi-instrumentalist who isn't sure whether Indie is a good descriptor anymore.

Thanks to the Martlet and CFUV for their continued and amazing support of this podcast. Enjoy!

Martlet Podcast Vol 2: Ep. 5

It's that time of year for student politics at UVic, which, for most students, means it's the time of year that a few posters go up ... and that's about it.

In order to understand and perhaps find a solution for the apparent apathy when it comes to student politics, we sat down with Emma Kinakin, the UVSS' current director of student affairs, and Myles Sauer, the editor-in-chief at the Martlet and reluctant student politic reporter. We also went out and around campus to talk to you, the students, to see what you had to say about it all.

Thanks to all who were interviewed and, of course, thanks to the Martlet and CFUV for their help in producing this week's podcast.

Martlet Podcast Vol 2: Ep 4

The Martlet podcast is here, free of charge, to help you learn more about how UVic students volunteer. In this episode, we speak to Katie Weaver, a fourth year Creative writing student, about her volunteering through a sorority on campus; Paige Bennett, a fourth-year Geography and Environmental Studies student, on how she came to volunteering and the importance of it to her; and fourth-year economics major Luke Frymire on how to be more effective with your volunteering.

Thank you to both CFUV and The Martlet in their help with producing this podcast.
