    # 54: HERE ARE MY TIPS: If you want to learn lash extensions but not sure if you'd like it

You probably have seen those impressive posts about lash extensions and becoming a lash artists. Maybe you’ve seen videos that talk about earning a pretty great amount of money by becoming part of the beauty industry. Now, you’re out there thinking about starting a career in the beauty biz. But at the back of your mind, you’re questioning whether you’re actually fit to become a lash artist or if you’d like being one.

I’ve been asked a lot of times about my career as a lash artist, usually by my clients who are genuinely curious about it and share so much love for lash extensions the same way that I do. It’s definitely a career that I’m passionate about but I’m not gonna lie, being a lash artist isn’t easy.

So if you have been wanting to start a lash career but you’re not sure about it yet, I would 100% recommend trying lash lift and tint course first to test the waters. Why lash lift & tint? First, you don’t need long time commitment with this during your training period. No long hours required to practice, not physically taxing as lash extensions and also you spend way less money for training and kit. Is this still a good investment for your skills? Absolutely! Not only will you get the feel of becoming a lash artist, if you market yourself successfully, you will get quicker ROI (return of investment) by doing lash lift & tints.

This has become a trend in the beauty industry as well. A lot of women are loving the idea of lash lift and tints being low maintenance compared to lash extensions. Your clients would only need to get fills after 4-6 weeks and the cost of the service is usually cheaper than lash extensions. The service duration is also relatively shorter so it’s great for busy clients who still want to have that boost to their lashes.

When you’re learning how to do lash extensions, it will take around 3-5 hours for you to finish one model/client which is a lot of time. With lash lift and tints, you can finish your models in about an hour and 30 minutes. When you’re a beginner, you tend to get distracted & feel a little discouraged when things are taking longer so getting those shorter service times might make you feel better, too.

If you’re still not convinced about taking a lash lift and tint course first, watch this video to learn more.

#51: How To Set-Up Your Cancellation & Sick Policies

#51: How To Set-Up Your Cancellation & Sick Policies

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced lash/brow artist one of the most difficult thing to implement & be consistent about it is your policies especially CANCELLATION & SICK POLICIES. But if there's an important advice that I'd like to give, is to start these policies as soon as you can. No one likes policies but as a biz owner, you have to do it.

When I was starting I used to give so much consideration to my clients because I want to keep them & make them happy. In the beginning, I didn't see anything wrong with this but as my clientele grow bigger, I realized that not having strict policies about cancellation totally put my studio in chaos. There are clients who's gonna cancel last minute adding holes to the rest of your schedule. This has not happened to me yet but some studios experienced having none left on their schedule for the day or week due to cancellations.

The purpose of cancellation is to protect yourself, your studio and your whole clientele. You don't want someone messing up the entire schedule, making it difficult for other clients to book or have to move different schedules. You want clients who know how to respect other people's time and adhere to the rules.

Of course cancellation and sickness policies are different. In my studio, if a client calls in sick, I still charge them the cancellation fee but they can have it credited on their next appointment. I want them to be able to get back on their feet after being sick and get back to their self-care.

If you're having a problem setting boundaries in your studio you might want to watch this video on my channel and if you're looking to set up cancellation & sick policy. This episode is for you.

#49: How to Compete in the 2023 Luxury Lash Market: Water-Based Adhesives (Part 2)

#49: How to Compete in the 2023 Luxury Lash Market: Water-Based Adhesives (Part 2)

We've been talking about tips on how to provide luxury service to your clients. It can be tricky especially when you're dealing with adhesive issues or clients.

You can watch the first part of this episode HERE where I shared my tips about adhesive to prevent irritation of the client's eyes.

Your clients might have conditions or practices that keeps them from getting the most out of their lash service. You probably heard of clients not being able to fully closed their eyes or have seen clients with fluttery lids. The fluttery lids can be simply caused my too much caffeine intake but the inability to fully closed the eyes might be a condition they can't anything about. As lash techs, there are ways we can help clients with this.

Your taping method is one. There are tehcniques that you can do and of course, the type of tape to use is another great consideration.

Making sure that you use adhesive that is water-based is one of the best options, too.

To know more about this tips make sure to watch the second part o this episode.

#49: How to Compete in the 2023 Luxury Lash Market: Water-Based Adhesives (Part 1)

We’re still on the topic of providing LUXURY SERVICE to your clients but let’s talk about ADHESIVES.

How can you provide luxury service to your clients through your adhesives?

Let me share with you my tips & tricks.

First, if you still haven’t tried water-based adhesive, now is the perfect time to consider switching especially if you have clients experiencing allergic reactions to your regular adhesive. The water-based adhesive doesn’t contain cyano-acrylates which most people are allergic to. You can prevent those blood-shot eyes or eye burning and provide a painless service that your clients can enjoy and look forward to.

I would caution you to choose the right water-based adhesive. I remember a lash tech who purchased from a different website since we don’t have our supplies yet. The client ended up having a bad reaction from that “water-based adhesive”. So be careful. Do your research and only purchase from reliable brands. Not all water-based adhesives that you will see in the market are made with high-quality ingredients.

Another tip that I want to share is the use of micropore tape. If you’re using one made of cotton, did you know that you’re actually creating an exothermic reaction? If you’re not yet familiar with this, it’s a phenomenon when you’re creating heat or releasing heat through the contact between your adhesive and this micropore tape. This contact then creates a reaction to the eyes such as burning, redness or irritation.

Want more tips? Make sure to watch the 2nd part of this episode to learn more.
