Boston Celtics Game Day Recap Guy DePlacido

After a blowout victory in Game 1, the Celtics come out and lay an egg losing 118-94 to the Cavs and the series is now tied 1-1 heading into Cleveland. White went from looking like an All Star to going 1-8 from 3. Tatum and JB were less than efficient in this game as well shooting just 7-17 from the field and JB went 0-6 from beyond the arc. Both of them were aggressive getting downhill which is good to see BUT it got a lot of guys out of rhythm.

Defensively, we were horrendous in transition. Not only did we give up 14 transition points, we also didn't hustle back giving the Cavs mismatches which led to more easy buckets. Nobody like the saying "It's a make miss league" but this is a pretty good example of why that saying makes sense. The Celtics, a very good 3pt shooting team, ended the night shooting just 22.9% from 3 and the Cavs, a not so great 3pt shooting team, shot 46%. It certainly wasn't the best game we've seen this year but we are in the same spot we were after Game 2 against Miami. Tied Series against a team with far less talent. Let's go out and take both in Cleveland.

The Celtics cruised to a 120-95 win over the Cavs taking a 1-0 series lead. JB and Derrick White were both incredible in this one. JB started the game off hot with 15 first quarter pts on his way to a team high 32! White continued his hot stretch scoring another 25. In a game with no Porzingis, we also saw some incredible minutes from Kornet which should make Celtics fans feel really good.

While JB and White were great, this was far from the best performance we've seen from Tatum which should also make you feel good about the depth of this team. Despite a poor performance from Tatum and no Porzingis at all, the Celtics cruised to this win. Mitchell is a stud and is always going to get his but the Celtics did a great job of shutting everybody else down. It doesn't seem like the Cavs have the firepower on either side of the ball to take care of business against this C's team!

The Celtics beat the Heat 118-84 and win the series 4 games to 1!!! This game was tied 11-11 and the Celtics went on a 21-5 run and never looked back. We got contributions everywhere in this game. With no Porzingis, Horford was slated into the starting lineup and Kornet got a lot of bench minutes at the 5 and they were both great. Kornet did as good a job on Bam as anyone in this series.

White had another Player of the Game night 25pts including 15 in the first quarter. Both of the Jays absolutely abused Tyler Herro on mismatches over and over again. Hauser bounced back with a 17pt performance on 5-8 from 3. Everybody played well and it resulted in a 34pt victory en route to a 4-1 series win!! Bring on Round 2!!!

The Celtics beat the Heat 102-88 in another masterful defensive performance. This game really had 2 storylines. The first was the play of Derrick White. He was sensational in this game almost single handedly carrying the Celtics offense with a career high 38pts on super efficient shooting splits.

The other storyline however wasn't a good one. Kristaps Porzingis left the game with Right Calf Tightness and supposedly left Kaseya Center in a walking boot. He's expected to get it looked at tomorrow and fingers crossed that it isn't too serious as this could be a major hindrance to the end goal of Banner 18. For now, it's onto Game 5 back in Boston with hopes of wrapping up this series and giving Porzingis some time to rest up before the next series!

The Celtics destroyed the Heat 104-84 and take back home court advantage. This was one of those hard nose gritty defensive wins that Celtics fans have been clamoring for. After giving up a Heat franchise record 23 made 3pt shots in Game 2, the Celtics held the Heat to just 28 3pt attempts in this one. They made it an emphasis to run the Heat off the 3pt line and it totally threw their offense out of sync.

As far as the Celtics offense goes, it was much more balanced than it was in Game 2. JB and Tatum still had solid games but we also saw much more contributions off the bench but the play of Porzingis and White was really the headline of this one which is great to see. This was a really solid win and a great way to jump out to a 2-1 series lead!

The Celtics fall to the Heat 111-101 and this was an ugly one. After blowing out the Heat from beyond the arc last game, the script was flipped and it was the Heat who had a historic shooting night. The Heat went 23-43 from beyond the arc while the Celtics only shot 12-32. Shooting 38% from 3 is perfectly fine but there is no world where the Celtics should only be taking 32 3pt shots with the amount of shooters we have.

From an offensive standpoint, JB and Tatum both played well and scored 61 of our 101pts which in theory is good BUT it also means the rest of our team didn't contribute at all. It took until midway through the 4th for White to become the only other Celtics player in double digits. We really needed more from our other guys especially Porzingis. Porzingis is the key to this series and breaking the zone that Miami loves to throw out there and he was 1-9 from the field today. We need more from him. The series is now tied 1-1 heading back to Miami. Time to get that Game 3 W.
