    President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will face off in the first presidential debate this Thursday. President Biden's campaign said he will focus on democracy, abortion, and his rival’s economic plans. Meanwhile, President Trump has said he has made up his mind on his vice presidential pick, and that most likely, that person will be present at the debate.
    The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal from the Biden administration, challenging state bans on gender-reassignment procedures and drugs for minors. The case involves a law in Tennessee that restricts puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors. Separately, the Court refused to take up two appeals against the COVID-19 vaccine.
    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the intensive phase of military operations in Gaza is about to end, and that Israel is planning to focus on Lebanon next. The Biden administration is advocating for a new Palestinian-led government in Gaza.
    Russia has promised to respond after Ukraine attacked Crimea with long-range missiles, killing four people and injuring over 150. The Kremlin is blaming the United States for the attack, and said the weapons were of American origin.

The former president and the GOP raised $141 million in May and had $170 million in the bank at the end of May. President Biden and the Democratic Party raised $85 million in May and reported $212 million in the bank at the end of May.
    Two people were killed and another eight were injured when a shooting broke out at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas. The suspected shooter was also injured and has been taken into custody.
    The Supreme Court upheld a federal law that keeps guns away from people under domestic violence restraining orders. The justices ruled 8–1 that since the nation's founding, firearm laws have targeted people who threaten physical harm to others.
    The Supreme Court also ruled against a woman who claimed that her constitutional rights to due process were violated when her husband's visa was denied. The court sided with the government, which denied his application in part because his tattoos were related to the MS-13 gang.

    Wildfires in New Mexico have claimed the life of a second person, and are still zero-percent contained. The season's first named tropical storm, Alberto, made landfall in Mexico Thursday, bringing severe flooding to parts of Texas. States in the Northeast and Midwest continue to experience temperatures of over 90 degrees amid the ongoing heat wave.
    A new poll by Fox News shows President Joe Biden leading former President Donald Trump nationally by two points. President Biden also performed stronger among independent voters. Meanwhile, a new Emerson College poll showed President Trump still leading in key swing states.

    The first named tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, Alberto, has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm is bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding along the coasts of Texas and Mexico. It's expected to make landfall in northern Mexico on Thursday.
    One person is reported to have been killed and more than 500 buildings were burned as two wildfires spread in New Mexico. A mountain village of 7,000 people was forced to evacuate on short notice. In California, meanwhile, wildfires near San Francisco and Los Angeles continue to burn.
    A primary race for Virginia's 5th congressional district is still too close to call. Republican Congressman Bob Good lags behind his challenger, Trump-endorsed John McGuire, by just over 300 votes. This was the most heavily funded race in Virginia, and illustrates the turbulence within the Republican Party.

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved the country's six-member war cabinet. This came after opposition party leader Benny Gantz withdrew from the cabinet and criticized Mr. Netanyahu's approach to the war in Gaza. Mr. Netanyahu is now likely to be even more heavily dependent on his nationalist allies to govern.
    President Joe Biden has met with the Secretary General of NATO in Washington. In July, NATO plans to unveil a new agreement to provide training and speed up the delivery of military aid to Ukraine. The alliance also reportedly plans to take nuclear weapons out of storage and place them on standby. Russia has condemned the move, and called it another escalation.
    U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has called for warning labels that would regularly remind parents and teenagers that social media has not been proven safe. He said social media has become an significant contributor to the mental health crisis among young people.
