In this series I’ll be chatting to friends about their mental health how they cope, their support systems, advice they’ve learnt and advice they’d like to pass on.

I’m Abby Lacey and I’ve suffered for anxiety for as long as I can remember. I’m not a mental health professional but I am an advocate of speaking out and breaking the stigma attached to mental health.

In 2019, I started Mental Health Mates - Reading, a peer support group organising walks and talks for people suffering from mental illness, along with their family and friends.

Since then, I have made many friends and connected with so many like-minded people, so I thought it would be great to give them a platform to tell their stories. If this podcast can help just one person then my job is done.

1 in 4 is not intended to take the place of professionals. If you need help, there is a number of services available to talk to:

Samaritans – 116 123
Mind – 0300 123 3393
Beat (eating disorders) – 0845 634 1414

👥 BONUS episode: Sanjeev Sandhu 👥

On today's 1 in 4 I am talking to my friend Sanj Sandhu not about mental health but about wellbeing. Sanj and I met through the Art of Brilliance's Wellbeing Workout earlier this year where he brilliantly presented the 8 week transformative programme. Sanj's own story of discovering wellbeing was so inspiring that I really wanted him to come on and share more about it.

    1 in 4: Laura Brooks

Today's 1 in 4 is a little bit different! I'm talking with Laura Brooks, from Sport in Mind, a charity that uses sport and physical activity to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems. I invited Laura on as we've been chatting for ages about meeting up and attending each other's sessions, but so far haven't got round to it, so what better than get Laura to come and chat to me here!

Super insightful

I have just spent the best part of nearly 3 hours listening to various episodes of this podcast as mental health is a subject that is very close to my heart as I and some of my family members have experience of it in various ways. Abbie is such an open and engaging host and navigates the sessions so seamlessly! I have learnt a stack and feel more empowered to guide my family towards the support they so badly needs right now. Biggest message - talk!! Love this!
