5 Reasons why sleep is AS important as your diet for your health   sleep is important but yet has been downplayed in our new information age. Especially with the new age Mantra of “HUSTLE “ ;“ I will sleep  When I am dead “ etc .  

But there is resounding research  On why we should be getting good sleep . Not only in quantity but also in quality .

1-  Not getting enough sleep is strongly linked with an increased risk of Heart disease and stroke .

  2- Adequate sleep improves your immune function  Poor sleep is seen to affect your NK cells - Natural killer cells -  These cells play a huge role in the immune system

 3- Poor or inadequate sleep is strongly linked to weight gain   This is multifactorial but  peer reviewed studies have shown a consistent Association with poor sleep and obesity  

 4- Poor sleep can pre dispose you to diabetes    Poor sleep is also known to affect insulin resistance in body cells this  Predisposing the person to type 2 diabetes

5-  Good sleep improves memory - - Good sleep the brain is still active Processing the day and thoughts and this is the stage  of memory consolidation .
