Ep. 251: The Week in Beauty: is this the end of Youthforia? With Cosmetic Scientist and brand founder Florence Adepoju
This Week in Beauty episode is dedicated to the uproar around beauty brand Youthforia and its less than inclusive Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation.
In this episode I share a little backstory on former guest and founder of Youthforia, Fiona Co Chan; discuss the criticism of the lack of inclusive shades which saw them literally putting black pigment in a bottle and calling it a foundation; and I chat with Cosmetic Scientist and founder of cult brand MDMflow, Florence Adepoju.
I’d love to know what you think - are you a fan of the brand?
Does this disappoint you?
Or are they already cancelled in your book?
Let me know over in the DMs on Instagram @beautymepodcast or comment over on Threads @charisse_kenion. If you enjoyed this episode do please leave a review or rating wherever you listen as it really helps others to find the show!
Thanks for being here and I’ll see you next time.

Today’s episode is all about the recent release of Back to Black, the much-talked about Amy Winehouse biopic directed by Sam Taylor Johnson. In this episode I’ll talk about Amy’s style evolution, Sam’s own history, the strong feelings against the movie even being made and I’ll end by sharing my conversation with hair and makeup designer Peta Dunstall as well as my own thoughts on watching the film.

Ep. 248: 6 multi-tasking makeup products for when you can’t be bothered - from Milk, to MAC, Make Up For Ever + more
This episode is all about my favourite makeup items that I use when I just can’t be bothered. They’re the perfect multi-use products for those days when your hormones have you wondering if you want to stay married, or the kids have got you hiding in the bathroom for five minutes to compose yourself.
These 6 products all have multi-tasking qualities to make makeup easy and quick to apply so you can get on with the rest of your day.
If you use any of these, let me know in the DMs @beautymepodcast on Instagram and if you hear me talking about a specific product that you’ve also tried, but think you’ve found something better, I want to know!
If you enjoy this episode please leave a rating on Spotify or a review anywhere else you like to listen. I do read the reviews so feel free to leave constructive feedback.

Ep. 247: Rihanna gets ugly for Interview magazine cover with religious symbolism but Madonna did it first!
This episode is a conversation around the new Rihanna cover for the spring issue of Interview magazine.
It’s a cover that’s upset a lot of her fans for two reasons; one, apparently she's just not looking pretty enough and two, she's wearing what looks like a piece of headwear we would normally associate with a nun.
It's a real deep dive of an episode, starting with Rihanna’s history as a risk-taker when it comes to fashion, before going on to briefly discuss Interview magazine’s own history as a magazine that doesn’t do safe/squeaky clean content, then I’ll break down the cover, including the team, the image that inspired the cover look, the ensuing backlash and I’ll also look at the woman who first really rattled religious groups back in the 1980s: Madonna.
As always, my DMs are open if you want to talk about anything beauty related or if you want to tell me I went too far in my comments on religion – you can find me over on Instagram @beautymepodcast or you can find me on Threads @charisse_kenion or email beautymepodcast@gmail.com.
As promised there is also a blog post featuring all of the imagery and art that I discuss - you can find that here: https://www.charissekenion.co/ and of course I've also made a video, which you can find on my Instagram or TikTok.
If you enjoyed this episode do please leave a rating on Spotify or a review anywhere else you like to listen and make sure you're following the show so you never miss an episode!
Thanks so much for being here – see you next time.

Ep. 246: The April issues – beauty all around on the latest magazine covers, including THAT Björk cover of Vogue Scandinavia
This week I’m taking pleasure in some of my favourite magazine cover stories – from Vogue Korea's '90s colour to Rihanna for Vogue China's Gen Z title Vogue+ and Björk for Vogue Scandinavia.
I also discuss the importance of Björk to the worlds of fashion and music and of course, my old favourite topic - retouching - comes into it.
I've created several videos to go with this episode so you can see what I’m talking about and you'll find them on my Instagram @beautymepodcast as well as my TikTok @charissekenion.
I'd also love to know your favourite covers for this month so get in touch over in the DMs and let me know!

🌹♥️
Charisse gives fresh current and insightful views to beauty and her industry . I always learn something new when I listen. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great host, great topics and great guests
I’ve been a subscriber to BeautyMe for a while now and I see each episode like a treat, where I can settle down for an evening with friends, only it’s via podcast.
Charisse covers a range of topics that are relatable and important, and highlights the fact that beauty and beauty products go beyond frivolity and vanity, she delves into how products make us feel, our shared and unshared experiences, and how we can connect with each other through this.
I enjoy listening to Charisse talk about her experiences in the industry and also love to learn about new brands and their founders, the ebbs and flows of the beauty industry in an economic and demographic sense, the joy and artistry that goes into creating looks, and peoples journeys to build careers in this sphere.
It’s rare for a podcast to encompass all of this and more, so I’m always excited for the next episodes.
Can’t get enough.
Charisse has the most beautiful voice that makes listening to this podcast so so easy. Not only are you certain to enjoy yourself, you’ll also learn something new. Everything is so well researched and articulated so well. There’s also an ep for everyone I love how varied the eps are! 💕💕💕
