Episode 2: 63rd GRAMMYs
This week, Host Craig Allison brings on special guest Keagan Hughes to break down the 2021 Grammy awards. Both music nerds discuss the highlights and controversies of the Los Angeles award show and how it compares to previous years. They first tackled the category of “Album of the Year,” ranking their pics from favorite to least favorite, including the win from Taylor Swift’s 2020 “Folklore” album. Although Craig Allison couldn’t understand the sentiments toward Swift’s win, die-hard “Swiftie” Keagan Hughes spelled out the album’s timely impact during the pandemic in 2020. Following this, they discussed their favorite performances, including DUA LIPA taking the stage with rapper Da Baby in their rendition of “Levitate." A special emphasis was driven into the uniqueness of this year’s in memoriam section, also addressing the controversies around Eddie Van Halen’s tribute. Aside from the powerhouse of foreign artist performances from BTS and Bad Bunny, Keagan and Craig also addressed the way TikTok played a huge factor in how well some of the nominations did in terms of winning awards. In their final breakdown, the pair talked about their overall impressions of how the Grammys are moving forward in terms of their progressive approach to artists, hosts, and awards.
