#18 – They speak of my drinking, but never think of my thirst (spill your guts)
John spills his guts. Leaking the following: How to not start a riot, the reason there is no candy for me. How if you own anything in life, it should be your bodily fluids. Why are you telling me this is a real mental hospital and you’re keeping books like that here? Why Naked Dave is our best barometer for anything.

Wow. So glad I found this show.
My son has had some intense experiences and has been in hospital. I’m not sure how to show up for him. This podcast is heartwarming, funny, human and real. It has given me hope that he’ll find a way to make sense of his experiences and integrate them into a happy future.
Personal perspective but lacks balance
Thanks John & Luke. Have only listened to #22 but it was interesting. A brave personal account of not finding the health service helpful. Is sad that these interactions weren’t more helpful for you John but it doesn’t sound like you made it easy for them to help you. In my experience health professionals can be very helpful beyond prescribing medication. CBT and other forms of psychological intervention can lead to great healing and recovery. I also think John possibly minimised the effect binge drinking alcohol with Luke the night before his girlfriend and mum took him to hospital had on him given his already fragile mental state. There was very little reflection on how his meeting with Luke could have been a much more helpful experience than it was.
I feel less alone!
I suffered from psychotic symptoms from age 17 and it’s a lonely world! Listening to this while I’m suffering from my insomnia and I’m obsessed! I feel like I’m less alone in this scary world! I see a creature, and he rules my life with his owner. I hear his voice, see him and feel his presence. All caused by trauma from bullying. My “internal bully”. This podcast is helping me accept my psychosis and makes me feel at one with myself.
