Jesus, The Rich and Generous Master
Jesus, The Delayed Groom
The big idea of this week's message is that Jesus' disciples are the wise women that are prepared for the groom’s delay. The kingdom of heaven is compared to a big celebration for a married couple. All throughout the bible, God presents himself as a husband to his people. In the New Testament, Jesus comes to be engaged or more accurately to be betrothed to his bride. Then he goes away and when he returns it will be like a wedding feast. True followers of Jesus will be ready for the feast when he comes!
Jesus, The Master of the House
The big idea of this week's message is that eagerly waiting for the judgment of God should produce in us a greater love for God, one another, and the world. These fruits of the Spirit should be seen in contrast to the fear, anxiety, and worry that is often associated with the second coming of Jesus. If we are in Christ, then we should eagerly look forward to when the master returns because it means receiving our inheritance and it means justice against unrighteousness.
Jesus, The Judge Who Was Judged
The big idea of this week’s message is that followers of Jesus must stay awake because only God knows when the day will come. The day that Jesus is referring to is a day of judgment on Jerusalem and that day has already happened. However, a day of judgment is happening now and it will happen again when Christ returns. Followers of Jesus today need to always be prepared and make ourselves ready for whenever that day comes.
Jesus, The Path To Glory
The big idea of this week's message is that we should trust Jesus' words by following Jesus' path. The path that Jesus takes in order to be crowned with glory and honor is through suffering and death. It is the same path that Daniel took when he worshipped God and was thrown into a den of lions. It is the same path that we must be willing to take if we are going to be true followers of Jesus. Jesus is the Son of Man, who is vindicated in glory. He is Israel's true representative and he is our only hope.
Jesus, The Vindicated King
The big idea of this week's message is that Jesus wants to save his followers from destruction. In this section of Matthew 24, Jesus says the destruction of the Jerusalem temple will come after an act of abomination. Therefore, the desolation of the temple is the result of Israel's sin and their rejection of Jesus. When the temple was actually destroyed in A.D. 70 by the Roman army Jesus' words were vindicated. In other words, Jesus is the true exalted king over heaven and earth.
