Little Shop Of Horrors (1986): Have We Found Ben's Ultimate Film In A Gardening-Based Horror C0medy SciFi?!

In a surprise twist, Ben & Rob stop by the ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’, an incredibly fun remake of Roger Corman’s 1960 original horror comedy, with a musical twist! Starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, John Candy and Steve Martin, this animatronic wonder of eighties cinema tells a disturbing tail of space invaders, murder, love and horticultural horror with equal parts star power and catchy melody. With the sad news of Roger Corman’s untimely passing this month, we thought it best to revisit a movie SO packed with Ben’s special interests that it can’t help but put a smile on his face!
But how did this movie create practical effects nearly unmatchable since it’s 1986 release? Why do both of our hosts have such deep and intense fear of dentists? And given the sheer depth of Ben’s gloom, is ANY movie capable of cheering him up this week?!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021): Is This The BEST Sequel In The Entire Ghostbusters Franchise?

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021): Is This The BEST Sequel In The Entire Ghostbusters Franchise?

Ben & Rob dig up the dirtfarm of ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ as they continue to cover EVERY Ghostbusters movie EVER! Starring Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd as our brand new team of misfits, but also featuring wonderful reprise performances from Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ see’s Egon Spengler’s estranged family rediscovering their family’s legacy in the wake of his death.
‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ serves as a painfully touching tribute to the one name missing from the above paragraph, Harold Ramis. A multi talented actor, director and writer, this film perfectly eulogises the man many in the cast simply called their friend, whilst simultaneously passing the torch from original Ghostbuster director Ivan Reitman to his son, Jason. But how did this film get made with the original cast so disparate? With Ben being such a Ghsotbusters fanatic, can he survive the onslaught of emotion this film subjects him to? And how does Satan decide on Demon Names?

Monkey Man (2024): The Insane Story Of How Slumdog Millionaire Made The Best Debut Of The Decade!

Monkey Man (2024): The Insane Story Of How Slumdog Millionaire Made The Best Debut Of The Decade!

Ben & Rob take a jab at ‘Monkey Man’, Dev Patel’s 2024 brand new feature film; his first in the director’s seat, his first in the writer’s room and without question the best starring turn of his career. When ‘The Kid’ (Patel) is wronged by those in power, he will stop at nothing to find the justice he needs and the audience craves, fighting not only for himself but the survival of those he represents. Also starring Sharlto Copley, Pitobash Tripathy, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, Adithi Kalkunte and Sobhita Dhulipala, ‘Monkey Man’ might just be the best debut film by any film-maker we’ve ever seen; a heart-pounding action stunner with a heart and soul to match.
Getting this film from script to screen was its own heroic battle, with writer/director and star Dev Patel needing as much determination and willpower as his epic protagonist. But how did this film so successfully steal the hearts of our hosts? Why might this be the most important film for you to support this year? And why is Rob so hopelessly enraged and bitter about UK teen-drama show ‘Skins’?!

Ghostbusters: Answer The Call (2016): Why Was This Film So Un-Welcomed By It's Own Audience?!

Ghostbusters: Answer The Call (2016): Why Was This Film So Un-Welcomed By It's Own Audience?!

Ben & Rob marvel at 'Ghostbusters: Answer The Call', the 2016 reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth. Set in a whole new universe where the original cast briefly appear in different roles but still shout fan service catchphrases, this film was unfairly reviled and bullied by a majority male audience on it's release and since. Does that mean we think the film is good? Well... no, but it's not because of the female cast.
The Ghosbusters franchise as a whole had been in development hell for decades; can we unravel the mystery of how this film came to be the fan-reaction disaster it so famously became? What was Dan Aykroyd's original idea for the abandoned 'Ghostbusters 3'? And can Ben and Rob find any silver lining in a film that even the studio wants everyone to forget ever happened?!

Limelight (1952): Why Was Chaplin's Most Personal Film Also His Last In Hollywood?

Limelight (1952): Why Was Chaplin's Most Personal Film Also His Last In Hollywood?

Ben & Rob close the curtain on their Charlie Chaplin with ‘Limelight’, his 1952 movie about love and regret that proved to be his last American film before his exile for suspected Communist sympathies. Billed as ‘Charles’ rather than ‘Charlie’, Chaplin paints a poignantly tragic tale of a fading star mentoring an up and coming dancer and reflects on his life in what is no doubt the most personal film he ever made. Also starring Clare Bloom and featuring so-called rival Buster Keaton, ‘Limelight’ was a financial success despite being mostly banned in the US due to Chaplin’s exile, marking a complex end to his career in the industry he had such a hand in shaping.
But beneath the complex romance of the two leads is there a deeper, and far sadder, reflection of Chaplin’s past? Why did the United States choose to ban a man who was arguably one of the jewels in their cultural crown? How comfortably can we watch the works of a man who had not one, but four far-too-young wives in his life? And as we end our coverage of Chaplin, has Ben finally found the film that steals his heart?!

Ghostbusters 2 (1989): Why Does This Sequel Get So Much Hate?!

Ghostbusters 2 (1989): Why Does This Sequel Get So Much Hate?!

Ben & Rob sit on a throne of blood and discuss ‘Ghostbusters 2’, the hotly anticipated and much maligned sequel to the classic original that everyone loves to hate but can’t pinpoint why. Released in 1989, ‘Ghostbusters 2’ made Columbia Pictures over two hundred million dollars richer but was still considered a flop, despite bringing back the full cast of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis.
Having lost their status and credibility five years after covering New York City with gooey roasted marshmallows in ‘Ghostbusters’, the city's former heroes and once-popular spirit-hunters struggle to keep afloat, forced to work odd jobs. However, when Dana and her baby have yet another terrifying encounter with the paranormal, it is up to Peter Venkman and his fearless team of supernatural crime fighters to step up and save the day. But is ‘Ghostbusters’ just a franchise that refuses to sequel well? Why does this film suffer so much among fan opinion compared to the original 1984 classic? And is Vigo The Carpathian just a terrible villain?!

Heck yeh

Genuinely insightful and fun film knowledge without the douchebaggery that can so often accompany it. A real pleasure to listen to every episode and pushes me out of my comfort zone to watch new films and appreciate more about cinema. Even films I have hated in the past have been revealed to me in a new light because of this show
