Armed with a consistently large lead in the opinion polls and a string of by-election successes, Britain's Labour Party looks closer to power than it has done for 13 long years.
But with many voters effectively now looking over Rishi Sunak’s shoulder, more and more people are asking a blunt question: ‘What would Keir Starmer actually do if he wins the next election?’
While the party has started to sketch out its plans for government, for some there is still a frustrating lack of answers.   This is a special i podcast series that aims to shed some light on that very question.
We’ll talk to independent experts about what Labour could do in office, and to politicians about what it should do.
We’ll hear from the people writing Labour policy - and who will sit in Starmer's first cabinet if he gets the keys to Number 10.
This fortnightly series will cover the party’s plans for the economy, for the NHS, for tackling the north-south divide and for life after Brexit.
Presented by Paul Waugh i Chief Political Commentator.

    Starmer’s Brexit Dilemma

    Starmer’s Brexit Dilemma

Labour’s Plan For Power: Starmer’s Brexit Dilemma is the fourth episode of a special new i podcast series looking at what Sir Keir Starmer’s party would do differently if it wins the next election. Hosted by Paul Waugh, i‘s chief political commentator, this is a four-part series that also covers the economy, the NHS and the north-south divide.
David Lammy, the Shadow Foreign Secretary, tells us: “The European Union is our number one priority… because I believe that our future prosperity and security is predicated on good relationships with our European partners.”
But former Cabinet minister Ed Balls says Labour needs to be more vocal on its plans. “Right now, I think not talking about our relationship is a problem. And not talking about how that fits with Britain's place in the world is a problem.”
And polling expert Professor Sir John Curtice has a warning: “What the party does need to understand…is that if indeed it is elected into office by a predominantly pro-EU electorate, it's then got to think about how it's going to best keep that electorate.”

    Fixing the North-South Divide

    Fixing the North-South Divide

“Labour’s Plan For Power: Fixing The North-South Divide” is the third episode of a special new i podcast series looking at what Sir Keir Starmer’s party would do differently if it wins the next election.
Hosted by Paul Waugh, i‘s chief political commentator, this is a four-part series that also covers the economy, Brexit and the NHS.
Andy Burnham, the Metro Mayor for Greater Manchester, tells us: “I keep saying the North-South divide is no accident. It's the product of UK national policy over many decades under many governments. And we either decide to change it or we don't.”
But former Business Secretary Peter Mandelson warns Keir Starmer’s plan to take power from Whitehall and give it to local areas could undermine his own “five missions” for a Labour government.
And Angela Rayner reveals how her own experience as a care worker and trade unionist convinced her of the need to devolve as much power as possible. “When people feel they have control over what they're trying to achieve, they own it. You just got to give people a little bit more empowerment. And it's surprising how well that can pay off.”

    The NHS and your health

Labour’s Plan For Power: The NHS and Your Health is the second episode of a special new i podcast series looking at what Sir Keir Starmer’s party would do differently if it wins the next election. Hosted by Paul Waugh, i’s chief political commentator, this is a four-part series that also covers the economy, Brexit and the North-South divide.
The Royal College of Nursing tells us that it is ready to go on strike again if a Labour government fails to deliver on pay and staff shortages.
Former Labour Health Secretary Alan Milburn warns that it is “unacceptable” for senior doctors to take industrial action and urges Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting to make that is “bottom line”.
And Streeting himself says that he will stand up for patients against “vested interests” of trade unions and others who oppose NHS reform. With former Health Secretary Andy Burnham and an array of health experts we also discuss funding pressures, the role of the private sector, waiting lists, GP access and social care.

    Labour's Plan For Power trailer

    Labour's Plan For Power trailer

Welcome to a brand new podcast from The i Paper! Paul Waugh examines a question on many voters' minds: ‘What would Labour actually do differently?’
This four-part series, Labour’s Plan For Power, is all about that question.
While Rachel Reeves and Sir Keir Starmer have started to sketch out their plans for government, for some there is still a frustrating lack of answers for a party that is closer to government than it has been for 13 years.
We will hear from former politicians, wonks, and those who will be sitting around the Cabinet table if Labour win the next election about their plans to fix Britain's crumbling public services.
Take a listen to the trailer for a taste of what's to come.

Very good analysis

I hadn’t heard of this podcast till Tory Party chair Richard Holden used it to point score against Labour on Twitter. I thought I’d listen to my MP’s dissent and found it well researched, intelligent analysis and made Labour sound very electable. Thanks to a Tory MP for letting me know.
