Amazon vs. Workers w/ Polly Smythe

Amazon vs. Workers w/ Polly Smythe

On this week’s Macrodose, Polly Smythe takes a look at an upcoming vote at an Amazon Warehouse on whether to unionise. If the workers vote yes, then for the first time in the UK Amazon will be forced to recognise a trade union.

What are workers at the Coventry site up against? Why is Amazon such a crucial battleground for the future of the labour movement? And what lessons can we learn from this latest organising attempt?

Polly Smythe is an industrial correspondent at Novara Media, where I spend my time covering everything to do with trade unions, work, and strikes.

Supine Blob ,

A Dose of Reality

The depth of analysis here is phenomenal and balanced against a level of clarity that a non-specialist can follow with little difficulty. Meadway and co excel at countering lazy, mainstream media narratives with insightful and sometimes counterintuitive explanations.

TheOriginalEarlydoors ,

Avoid

I’ve previously enjoyed James Medway missives in print but it’s only in audio that I realise what a miserable person he is. If you also find the world to be a terrible place because of the fault of others, then this show is also for you.

AbundantThinking ,

Refreshing and real

Confronts the climate crisis in every episode, unlike most of the media.
James uses novel but down to earth examples to show how the economy could work if our society wasn’t based on individualism, greed and short term thinking.
