Defend Marianna Spring

I want to praise this incredible young woman, who is dragging we crazy late Boomers/early Gen X’ers kicking and screaming into the C21st. For goodness sake stop criticising her, she has enough to contend with old white men talking over her, across her and making fun of her, yet she remains bright, respectful and very, very informative. The “new” world of social media remains a complete mystery to us, please allow her to explain the complexities of it without carping about her personality. She is an extremely talented and able young woman and, in my view, thoroughly professional. She is the future …

Lightweight trivial amateur

LK and Mason are simply not skilful enough journalists to deal with these polarised times. Perhaps it was because they learned their trade at a time when politics was more in the middle ground and built around personalities and gossip. They trivialise and hypernormalise behaviour by public officials that deserves scrutiny and objective reporting. I’d say it’s style over substance but even their style is “Westminster goss for other journos”. I’d have thought that LK’s stenography of Cummings’ uncorroborated text messages during a public health crisis might have highlighted her pitfalls to bbc management. But perhaps that’s precisely why she’s stayed in the role. Keep us listeners fixated on superficial tattle - and deferent to the framing of right wing tabloids. More of the status quo…

Loving Electioncast

Electioncast is brilliant so far. Particularly enjoying the Undercover Voter segments. Great having a range of BBC voices on the Pod - Adam, Laura, Chris, Alex, Marianna et al. Election Newscast is definitely hitting its stride. And it’s so fun to have the klaxon back sometimes!!

(Also @HedgeSparrow - by all means criticise a person’s journalism, but criticising someone’s laugh is pretty poor form.)
