George Underwood - British Artist and Musician

George Underwood is a British artist and musician. He is best known for designing album covers for numerous bands in the 1970s and his collaborations with long-term friend, singer-songwriter David Bowie.

George joins Charlie for a great conversation about his incredible career. After deciding that the music business was not for him, George returned to art studies and then worked in design studios as an illustrator. Initially he specialised in fantasy, horror and science fiction book covers.
Many of George Underwood's colleagues in the music business asked him to do various art works for them. This led to George becoming a freelance artist. Art work for the first T Rex album and later David Bowie’s Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust album covers established him as a leading and creative art illustrator.

Lyrical Headshots 3: Songs That Explain Addiction

Lyrical Headshots 3: Songs That Explain Addiction

This "Lyrical Headshots" series delves into popular song lyrics that explore mental health. We are sitting on an untouched goldmine of literature written on the subject which hasn’t been discussed enough, and Not Your Usual Doctor, Dr. Charlie Easmon, is here to change that.
In this episode, Charlie recites and reflects on three songs that focus on the issue of addiction. He explores the foundations of addiction and how it starts small and then slowly takes over your life. With lyrics from Lou Reed, he explores the subservience that an addict has to their dealer. ‘Mr. Brownstone’ by Guns N’ Roses offers a final explanation of the danger among addicts, especially heroin addicts, of ‘chasing the dragon’.

We’d love to hear how the episode made you think about the issue of addiction and any song suggestions for future episodes!

    Del Keens the Misfit model

    Del Keens the Misfit model

Del Keens has modelled for Diesel Jeans, Levi's, and Calvin Klein, and founded Misfit models in Germany in 2012. He is a storm of a character; funny, honest, and insightful—shining light on the darkness of the fashion world from his unique perspective of success. Del rides his motorbikes and runs his business and just wants to keep doing that as long as he can - he loves to be busy.
In this conversation with Dr. Charlie Easmon, he talks about being a school dropout in South London and founding his own modelling agency in Germany. They tackle cultural appropriation in the fashion industry. Is Germany taking it too far? They discuss how Del’s company Misfit models changes the lives of people who don’t fit under the conventional parameters of beauty coming in all shapes and sizes to have a career in modelling. What does it take to be a successful model? It’s not just good looks that’s for sure.

Lyrical Headshots 2: The Jam and the Buzzcocks

Lyrical Headshots 2: The Jam and the Buzzcocks

This "Lyrical Headshots" series delves into popular song lyrics that explore mental health. We are sitting on an untouched goldmine of literature written on the subject which hasn’t been discussed enough, and Not Your Usual Doctor, Dr.Charlie Easmon, is here to change that.
In this episode, he performs and unpacks the lyrics of ‘Have You Ever Had It Blue’ and ‘Frightened’ by Paul Weller and ‘Orgasm Addict’ by the Buzzcocks. Respectively, the songs cover the following topics:

The difference between sadness from adversity and clinical depression. ‘Frightened’ is a brave exposé that even as a performer who gets up on stage and commands crowds of fans, one can still feel small, lonely and anxious. We finish with the topic of sex, masturbation and porn addiction.

We’d love to hear how the episode made you think about these critical issues within the mental health sphere and even any song suggestions for future episodes!
