Education has been described as ‘the Great Equalizer’ because of its transformative power for individuals and society. It can help to tackle extreme income inequality and chronic poverty; ensure economic growth; act as a leveller within society, close the gap between rich and poor, women and men, empowering individuals to become active and responsible citizens. However, the converse can also be true: a highly unequal education system will contribute towards more unequal societies by solidifying the pre-existing inequalities and limiting social mobility.
Why is there inequality in the educational system, and can it be remedied? Let’s find out in this episode from my perspective as what are those inequalities found in the educational system and taking a step in making small change can bring the evolution towards Inclusion.
