    439. Microplastics, Global Greening, & the Dangers of Radical Alarmism | Dr. Patrick Moore

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with industry consultant, science activist, and past president of Greenpeace Canada (1971 to 1986), Dr. Patrick Moore. They discuss his time in Greenpeace, the historic timeline of global ice ages and climate change, the clear lies being peddled to promote alarmism, and how the woke left manipulates science (and scientists) to promote a falsely perceived and politically incentivized future catastrophe.

Dr. Patrick Moore has been a leader in the international environmental field for more than 45 years. He is a co-founder of Greenpeace and served for nine years as President of Greenpeace Canada and seven years as a Director of Greenpeace International. As the leader of many campaigns Dr. Moore was a driving force shaping policy and direction for 15 years while Greenpeace became the world's largest environmental activist organization.

In recent years, Dr. Moore has been focused on the promotion of sustainability and consensus building among competing concerns. He was a member of the British Columbia government-appointed Round Table on the Environment and Economy from 1990 - 1994. In 1990, Dr. Moore founded and chaired the BC Carbon Project, a group that worked to develop a common understanding of climate change.

In 2021 Dr. Moore published "Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom" exposing the fake news and fake science around 11 claims of disaster including climate change, coral reefs, polar bears, plastic, nuclear energy, and more.

Almost Fecund!

These podcasts rarely fail to engage & inspire. This devotees criticism - hopefully constructive - is towards Peterson’s innate agreeableness. The latest podcast with Dr Daniel Dennett offered multiple opportunities for real challenge and disagreement. Dr Dennett’s certainty that the secular can guide the scientific surely warranted some determined, and evidence-based, ‘pressure testing’. Instead a deferential and humble Peterson was infuriatingly unwilling to gainsay Dennett’s shibboleths. As an aside, I suspect that this (Peterson) ‘agreeableness’ may also hamper the ARC initiative. Recommend the injection of some old-fashioned Prosecution & Defence into these otherwise excellent discussions.

Life changing

I began listening to Jordan’s podcast and lectures in 2018 and have found them to be the most inspiring and thought provoking content I have ever consumed. He has clearly given an awful lot of thought to his work and wants nothing more than for each individual to find their path to a better community. The effect this man has had on so many people is nothing short of a miracle. Do yourself a favour and start listening now, who knows how much better things could be.

Climate echo chamber

I greatly respect Jordan Peterson’s work with the exception of climate change. I feel he surrounds himself with like minded people and doesn’t risk talking to reasonable people with opposing views on this subject. By doing that there is just a chance of learning something new. We all need to be open to that. There are people who feel that the risk of environmental disasters is increasing who are not in Greta Thunbergs or Extinction Rebellion camp. The encyclical Laudato Si from Pope Francis sees the environmental crisis as only a symptom of what is going wrong in our world whether that’s about overconsumption, abuse of natural resources, human trafficking, social isolation, disregard for human life, .. they are are all interconnected and come from our broken relationships with one another, with creation and with God himself. We need a holistic approach to addressing the worlds problems. I would think it would be helpful to talk to someone who doesn’t see a lack of hope but a need to build a new world with new institutions. Addressing the climate change doesn’t mean going back to the stone age but employing better technologies and living simply. It’s clear that materialism doesn’t bring happiness or meaningfulness or a sense of personal purpose into our lives.
