PARAMEDICAST Sophie and Poppy

In this episode I speak to Adam Barnard, a paramedic at Silverstone Medical Services. Adam’s patients include F1 drivers, thousands of spectators, motorcycle racers, and members of the public paying to use the circuit. We will discuss the day-to-day job, training requirements, and special considerations of providing pre-hospital care on a live high-speed race track.

In this episode we review the The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Conference 2023. After a five-year break, the conference was back and held at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
The conference programme is aimed to cater to a broad range of practitioners from first aiders, paramedics, doctors, nurses, students, first responders, voluntary aid workers and remote medics, multi agency teams including police, fire, and armed forces.

In this episode we discuss Callum’s career journey starting with a move from Australia to the UK and becoming a Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care. We will get an insight into Callum’s previous unique role as a Tactical Response Unit and Joint Response Paramedic working with London Ambulance Service. We also discuss Callum’s role as a Paramedic Educator and why he has a keen interest in education and the future of paramedic practice.

Val Cochrane qualified as a paramedic in 1999 with Greater Manchester Ambulance Service, after working as a technician for three years. Outside of her work as a Community Paramedic for NWAS, Val has volunteered as a medic for the Isle of Mann TT, and as medical officer for Glossop Mountain Rescue Team. Last August, Val went to Ukraine with a humanitarian charity, UK-Med.

In this episode we discuss Val's career, her work as a motorsport medic, and the three months she spent in Ukraine.

In this episode we discuss Gordon's varied career journey from a lifeguard and surfer to a Critical Care Paramedic working within HEMS. We get an insight into Gordon's previous unique role as a remote area paramedic working in rural and hostile countries across the world and discuss Gordon's current role as an RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew member.
