    In Todays video Dr. Becky speaks with Alix Generous who speaks about her diagnosis with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Alix discusses how she experienced abuse during her childhood and how she was also bullied at school.

    Alix was 12 years old when she was diagnosed with Autism. Alix explains in detail her sensory overload struggles which could lead to a strong negative reaction, but explains she has become more tolerant to it as she has got older. Alix also discusses her previous experience with therapy and how she found this difficult as she began to feel vulnerable again. Alix also talks about meeting her husband and forming social and romantic relationships with a diagnosis of Autism.

    Alix has become a voice online for mental health awareness and Autism. Alix held a TedX talk where she discussed openly about her Autism diagnosis and she credits her unique mind with her success in dealing with the complex issues.

    In this documentary podcast Dr. Becky Spelman documents her egg freezing process at Gennet City Fertility clinic. Becky discussed the process of the egg freezing process and is seen visiting various practitioners from the clinic. She provides valuable insight into the emotions she experiences through the treatment as she starts to take the hormonal injections. The egg freezing process is not completely a smooth process for Becky and she shared some mistakes she makes along the way and offers some tips and advice to others considering having the treatment.

    This documentary was a collaboration with Gennet City Fertility clinic who sponsored Dr. Becky’s treatment.

    Dr. Becky Spelman talks with Ryan Stevens also known on social media as 'Tourette Lad Official' and 'The Boy who Tics'. Ryan is known to have one of the most extreme cases of Tourettes in the UK. Ryan's diagnosis is now known as 'Severe, complex, abnormal Tourettes syndrome', Ryan explains his Tourette's began as a sore throat and severe headaches when he was 14 years old , Ryan was officially diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome when he was 21 years old by a neurologist.

    Dr. Becky discusses with Ryan his early life experiences and when he first noticed the symptoms begin. Ryan also explains his experiences with bullying and strangers making fun of his condition, which has lead to him also experiencing social anxiety because of this.

    Ryan describes his tics as uncontrollable and explains his treatment journey. Ryan is about to undergo Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with a Neuropsychologist, which helps individuals practice strategies to delay the tics as much as possible, in order to decrease the tics overtime.
    Ryan also suffers from Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) after his Tic Attacks, which leads to Ryan having difficulty walking. As well as this, Ryan also suffers from Dissociation Identity Disorder (DID). Ryan explains his Tics are triggered by enhanced emotions such as excitement, anxiousness, sadness etc.

    In this episode Dina discusses how she started to experiment with drugs from a young age in order to try to deal with difficult emotions she was experiencing. Unfortunately Dina was offered heroin from a young age when she started hanging around with the wrong crowd, Dina then moved on to try crack and developed a serious crack addiction. After a number of attempts at rehab Dina’s parents stepped in and took her to an alternative type of rehab where she remained for 5 years without any devices or internet access. Dina tells her story of the process over overcoming heroin and crack addiction and what life was like when she got back home after 5 years. Dina has completely transformed her and now helps others who struggle with addictions.

Brilliant and insightful

I love listening to these stories. The host is excellent at interviewing and the flow of the interviews seem so natural and relaxed, and you can tell the interviewees feel comfortable opening up to Dr. Becky. Fascinating stories and brilliant podcast!

This is an amazing podcast for anyone interested in Psychology or listening to real people talk about their mental health experiences. It’s such an amazing and unique insight and opportunity to look into mental health through these personal interviews.
