Yuan Yang explores the new China
When journalist Yuan Yang’s activist friend Sam joked about Yuan writing the news story if Sam was ever detained… and then disappeared, Yuan knew there was a bigger story to tell about modern China. Her new book, Private Revolutions: Coming of Age in a New China, looks at modern China through the lives of four women in their 30s.
She’s chatting to Mick about China’s communist lie, the fear of falling off ladders, pigs, parenting, and how the stories of these four brave idealist women in China’s new social order led to Yuan standing for Parliament here in the UK.

A bit sweary but so interesting
The podcast is full of so much info it often requires a rewind. Also loadsa jokes, even with the serious stuff but leaves you reflective,
I think Jenny has single handedly pushed women’s sports to the forefront and actually left me with a bit of eye fog when talking about the inspiration for young women in sports.
If everything else is a miss for you, try “Rated or Dated”, or whatever else fills the film slot. Basically there’s something for everyone, if you can get past the sweary bits,
which, to be fair, is usually influenced by specific subjects 🫣
Always a great listen!
Great pod-hosts and so many interesting interviewees, and it covers everything : sport, entertainment, history, literature, politics etc. This is the podcast I listen to as soon as it drops!
Recommended To All Women
I’ve been listening since the beginning, and before that, I read it as an online magazine. I love it! It’s so informative.
I love the fact that each episode something for everyone, no matter what your taste.
For example: I don’t have any interest in sport and fast forward through that bit (sorry Jen). Even so, there are plenty of other really really interesting bits.
I’ve found many great films and tv shows to watch, books to read and plays to look out for, whilst listening to this podcast. As well as being made aware of so many social issues I may never have learned about.
I look forward to every episode.
