Solo Motherhood By Choice In/Fertility In The City

    • Health & Fitness

TRIGGER WARNING: This episode deals with discussions of in/fertility and/or baby loss.

--

In this episode of In/Fertility in the City we're joined by the inspiring Claire Burton, a family lawyer who shares her journey from confronting unexpected jealousy at a friend's pregnancy to embracing solo parenthood, navigating the complex world of sperm donation, and defying medical odds.

Along the way, Claire and her team have switched firms and she discusses how openness about her journey was important to ensure the move was to a place where this would be supported. With candid insights into the practicalities of sperm donation and the support systems that have made her dream possible, this episode is a beacon of hope and encouragement for anyone considering solo motherhood.

Discover how Claire's unapologetic approach and meticulous planning led to her pregnancy success at 43, and what her future holds as she prepares for the joys and challenges of raising a child on her own terms.

--

Claire has been a practicing family solicitor for almost 15 years.  Claire specialises in private law children cases, particularly those where there are allegations of domestic and/or substance abuse.  Claire is highly recommended by clients and directories with her being described as simply brilliant, a hero, legal lioness and a truly wonderful human.

Very active in her local legal community, Claire has represented family lawyers across the Thames Valley through her work with the Thames Valley Family Lawyers’ Society for which she is currently the Treasurer and Vice Chair.

In her personal life, Claire began her fertility journey in earnest in 2021.  She was diagnosed with PCOS in her twenties and knew, therefore, she was likely to need some medical support to fall pregnant.  Alongside that potential medical challenge, was the prospect of doing this as a solo mum.
