Lisa Canny | The Marmalade Show

Lisa Canny | The Marmalade Show

    The Marmalade Show - E10

Multi-instrumentalist Lisa Canny strives to drive the next generation of artists to be their best by representing it best herself. She is driven to make a difference and inspire younger creatives to make a difference in their communities. Growing up in the traditional roots of Ireland, Lisa was put in a box of creativity and could only focus on the Irish tradition. She blew that right out of the water rebelling against her upbringing to bridge the gap of musical tradition of Irish folk with unique pop, RnB, and electronica mix.

A real inspiration is the difference she makes every day as an artist. A role model for all, but especially females being put in a box of creativity.

Toby Corton | The Marmalade Show

Toby Corton | The Marmalade Show

The Marmalade Show - E9Toby Corton is a London-based artist, known for his soul of queer storytelling. In his early years, Toby expressed himself through ways of joy and not even knowing what they stood for. As a toddler and child, he would walk around in short heels and a tea towel wrapped around his head. This significance growing up has driven him to always express his thoughts and beliefs while moving toward his passion for music and fashion. After working in some regular old jobs and doing music in his time off, Toby took the plunge to focus on his music career. But the focus was to elevate not just his music career, but the overall queer music community. After seeing some other interest from queer artists, Toby co-founded Sounds Queer, a London-based community of queer musicians. This group shines a light on queer artists through studio sessions, creative support, and live shows. A special and needed community within a very busy London music scene.

We spoke with Q from State Is Flow, in which we learned that communities for creatives are very rare. Q facilitates a great bit of State Is Flow with a handful of other creatives where they are based at The Brick Art Studios in central London. Q focuses on bringing the most out of each artist, while always pushing those around to be the best creative version of themselves. The Brick Art Studios is filled with creatives of all artistic facets. The space is truly a community to share, listen, and express in any way possible. Leah Cleaver | The Marmalade Show

Leah Cleaver | The Marmalade Show

    The Marmalade Show - E8

Leah Cleaver is a London-based artist, known for her lead vocals and writing in the band ZEBEDE. Her early years were filled with tremendous support for always wanting to perform and share her ideas. After forming the band ZEBEDE at university, Leah has grown into an exceptional performer and songwriter, sharing stories that are fun and uplifting, and also sincere and impactful. Her drive has expanded even more by starting her own women's circle with her best friend, Beth Duck. Their women's circle U Gd, Girl? is for all women and non-binary individuals who want a community of supportive feminine energy to experience life with. These planned events range from self-defense classes to deep personal conversations, to a spa day. The work Leah enables goes beyond the women's circle but encompasses the environments she is in. This stems from her upbringing to fully support women (and non-binary individuals).

Hattie Erawan | The Marmalade Show

Hattie Erawan | The Marmalade Show

    The Marmalade Show - E6

Erawan is Thai and stems from the three headed elephant of the three gods in Hindu culture. The creator, keeper and destroyer are a part of her as an artist. This represents the external energy Hattie Erawan represents as an artist - a musician, model, and performer. Artistic growth through multiple cultural values is a consistent battle for growth. Expression drives creativity for Erawan and as she explains it, is a beautiful part of being an artist.
