    The Ever-Changing Heavyweight Landscape

    The Ever-Changing Heavyweight Landscape

After solving a technical hitch we’re delighted to bring you this week’s Opening Bell, just a day or two later than planned.
Recorded on Wednesday, we look back on the 5 v 5 bill and reflect on Daniel Dubois’ arrival, Deontay Wilder’s exit and some seriously impressive showings from Nick Ball, Hamzah Sheeraz and Willy Hutchinson.
In This Week In History we shuttle back to 1997 and a record-breaking slugfest between Ike Ibeabuchi and David Tua.
Thanks for your love and patience. We appreciate you!

The rebirth of Daniel Dubois (Patreon)

Listen to the full 5 v 5 review show here: https://www.patreon.com/TheOpeningBellPodcast
In a special podcast we look back on the 5 vs 5 show from Saudi Arabia and name the biggest winner on a night of memorable performances.
Daniel Dubois was perhaps the biggest of all with a bombastic showing to break down and rip up Filip Hrgovic in eight rounds.
That showing is in focus here along with Deontay Wilder’s fall at the hands of Zhilei Zhang.
Once again, we thank you adorable lot for joining us. Your support is even better than sliced bread.
Lots of love from all at The Opening Bell.

5 vs 5: Picking The Winners

5 vs 5: Picking The Winners

A snippet from our patreon-only pod previewing the 5 v 5 this weekend. You can listen to the whole episode on our patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/TheOpeningBellPodcast
In the first of many special podcasts for our beautiful Opening Bell Patreons, we break down each of the fights and predict the winners on this weekend’s 5 v 5 event in Saudi Arabia.
Will Wilder beat Zhang? Can Dubois upset Hrgovic? Does Ball have what it takes to dethrone Ford? What happens when Sheeraz fights Williams? Does Richards prove to experienced for Hutchinson? And will Bivol win at a canter?
Goodness knows, but we do our best to make some educated guesses…
Thanks again to each of you for your support, it really means the world.

Catterall-Taylor II: What was the score?

Catterall-Taylor II: What was the score?

Here we go again. Another fight between Jack Catterall and Josh Taylor and another scoring controversy. But were the scores that favoured Catterall by 117-111 really that wide of the mark?
Whether they were or not, Bob Arum’s cameo at the end arguably stole the entire show.
We examine the fight, the cards and Great Uncle Bob’s outburst while wondering what’s next for both Catterall and Taylor.
We look ahead to the 5 v 5 in Saudi Arabia and, in a special treat, head back to 1980s and some vintage Marvin Hagler in This Week In History.
Finally, THANK YOU to all who signed up for Patreon. We are so very appreciative! If you haven’t yet, please do so here https://www.patreon.com/TheOpeningBellPodcast…… and if you’re not in a position to do so, leave us a nice review instead!
Love and respect to all of you.

    TAYLOR-CATTERALL II: PREVIEW SPECIAL

    TAYLOR-CATTERALL II: PREVIEW SPECIAL

In a special bonus podcast we examine the rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall.
It’s been two years since boxing fans lost their minds over the decision of fight one when Taylor, despite being dropped and outworked, won on a split vote.
We examine what’s happened since, where each of the fighters are now compared to where they were, and who is the likeliest winner.
If you haven’t done so already, please leave a review and tell your friends, family and neighbours about The Opening Bell.

Daniel Dubois comparison

Most definitely the best boxing podcast but saying Dubois looked like Ike Ibeabuchi against Hergovic is way off the mark . Ike would have destroyed Dubois . Ike v Tua is in the top 3 heavyweight fights in history. No way he could fight at that pace

Top drawer!

Without a doubt my favourite and most unbiased boxing podcast there is. I look forward to hearing Matt and Alex’s take on all things boxing each week. Great to hear that the podcast will be continuing to run in light of recent events - the Patreon subscription was more than worth it!
