Lightning Try To… Delay A Stanley Cup ‘Reaction’ + New Panthers HC Paul Maurice

Lightning Try To… Delay A Stanley Cup ‘Reaction’ + New Panthers HC Paul Maurice

We all played a collective game of “Where’s Waldo?” at the conclusion of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. First, finding the puck on Nazem Kadri’s (eventual) OT winner, then counting the players on the ice after Jon Cooper hinted at a missed Too Many Men call in his bizarre post-game presser. In any case, Game 5 is here, and it’s sure to be beautiful!  The guys have you covered for everything Avalanche/Lightning including what Ray heard between the benches and in his headset, other missed calls, and potential rule (and hockey net?) changes in the NHL.

Florida Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice has that new coach glow, or in this case tan! Maurice discussed why he felt it was time for a change after 9 seasons behind the bench for the Winnipeg Jets, gave us the play-by-play on his hiring in Florida, including a 10-hour interview with GM Bill Zito, plus detailed his off-season preparation, and the opportunity ahead of the Panthers.

Maurice takes the place of Jack Adams finalist, Andrew Brunette. Brunette and his future with the Panthers (or another team) are amongst topics discussed in Headlines this week. Pending RFA Pierre-Luc Dubois informed the Jets he wants to test free agency in 2024, which has the guys speculating on how Winnipeg proceeds, and if Dubois is developing a ‘reputation’ after wanting out of Columbus too.

Ask R&D sees questions on Ray’s playing career, what it would have meant to have a 'day with the cup', and his memorable European teammates. A Leafs fan asks: “what could’ve been?” with Nazem Kadri, and who would you rather have ripping one-timers on the powerplay? Brett Hull or Ovy?

Coolbet Kris is on hiatus soaking up the sun, so the guys are left to discuss a hefty payday for anyone who has Tampa pulling off the unlikely comeback, and the over/under in what’s been a high-scoring series.

‘Gut Punches’ of the Business w/ New VGK Head Coach Bruce Cassidy

‘Gut Punches’ of the Business w/ New VGK Head Coach Bruce Cassidy

What a whirlwind month for Bruce Cassidy: A hard-fought 7 game series vs. Carolina, to losing his job as Bruins Head coach, to being re-hired across the country! Bruce discussed the “gut punch” of his firing in Boston, lessons from a hard conversation with Bruins GM Don Sweeney, and new beginnings with old friends in Vegas.

PLENTY is covered in Headlines this week. The guys chime in on a fast Avs start in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, the expected Lightning bounce-back, and how size has prevailed on defence. Off-season chatter includes cap maneuvers in the Weber/Dadonov deal, if Montreal goes Slafkovský or Wright, and why first overall might not be the only noise the Canadiens make on Draft Day. Plus, John Tortorella’s coaching style, and his tough task of turning around the Philadelphia Flyers.

Coolbet Kris likes the Tampa Bay Lightning with the odds shifting against their 3-peat, he discussed the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix weekend, and how one bettor hit an unlikely jackpot with Adam Hadwin at the US Open.

Ask R&D puts the guys on the spot as a Bruins fan asks who they’d put in their Top-5 defensemen of all-time, and a Panthers fan wants to know who will be behind the bench next season. Ray’s son asks him about a ‘flood’ of emotion at Father’s Day dinner, and (of course) Bryan Mudryk has something to say.

“Eating To Win a Championship” w/ Retired NHL’er Matt Calvert

“Eating To Win a Championship” w/ Retired NHL’er Matt Calvert

When you're on Nathan MacKinnon's team, you can't just eat, you have to be "eating to win a championship". That is, according to former Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Calvert. Calvert talks the bittersweet emotions of watching the Avs make the Stanley Cup final, his new venture, CAL Sports Management, and has a bone to pick with Ray for chirping his breakaway on live TV!

Ray and Dregs discuss the Lightning ‘flipping a switch’ to make the Eastern Conference final a best-of-three, how a stacked Avs lineup matches up vs. either of the remaining world-class goalies. Plus, why Oilers fans should be proud of the season they had, but if the salary cap will keep them from being a team that gets those last ‘8 wins’.

Coolbet Kris celebrates hitting a prop bet on an otherwise meaningless Panarin goal, chats the wild changes in odds after the Lightning erased a 2-0 Rangers lead, and looks ahead to Stanley Cup final.

Ask R&D sees questions on the off-season, how soon players book tee-times/vacations after being ousted in the playoffs, changes to the high-stick rule, and more!

Chirpin’ on the Conference Final Chaos w/ NHL on TNT’s Keith Jones

Chirpin’ on the Conference Final Chaos w/ NHL on TNT’s Keith Jones

Defence?? Who needs it!? Dregs is in Denver covering a MacKinnon/McDavid shooting gallery in the ‘Wild Wild West’, while Ray says “Igor’s Better” in the East. Conference Finals chatter abounds as the guys delve into a crazy (and controversial) start to the final rounds.

NHL on TNT’s Keith Jones has a fern, Dregs is between two lights, and Ray’s alone in a concrete jungle, as all three join the show from their hotel rooms. The trials of fitting between the benches are discussed, along with which teams have been chirping the most, and why Jones thinks the Avs/Oilers series will be a long one.

Coolbet Kris has been all over Tampa these playoffs, he discusses their favourable odds after dropping Game 1. The value offered in player prop bets during a high scoring series, and (regrettably) taking Champions League betting advice from Ray’s 12-year-old son.

Ray and Dregs talk ‘draws’ as Ask R&D has a couple friends of the show chime in on Speedos and other undergarments. Plus, a question on the direction of the Flyers brings up Johnny Gaudreau to Broad Street speculation. Have your question answered by tweeting at us, using #AskRayandDregsAnything

Battle of the ‘Goalie Gaffes’ + Team Germany AC Jessica Campbell

Battle of the ‘Goalie Gaffes’ + Team Germany AC Jessica Campbell

Mike Smith and Jacob Markstrom add their names to Battle of Alberta folklore… With goals against they’d rather forget! Ray and Dregs discuss if Connor McDavid is the best player we’ve ever seen, Nazem Kadri’s epic performance in the face of ignorance, and the unmatched will of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jessica Campbell is making history as the IIHF’s first female coach. The Saskatchewan native joins the show, discussing her fascination with skating technique, the difference between playing and coaching, and how she deals with the glare of being different in the hockey world.  Coolbet Kris brings his unique perspective for spotting JUICY betting odds. This week he’s eyeing penalty minutes for David Perron and Nazem Kadri, early Conn Smythe favourites, and a surprise pick for  Canada vs. Sweden in the IIHF Men’s Worlds. Ask R&D has Ray putting on his foodie hat, reminiscing about Long Island’s restaurants, and the authentic New York meals he’s enjoyed with NHL on ESPN’s broadcast crew. A Whole Lotta Goals - The Battle of Alberta & 2nd Round of NHL Playoffs

A Whole Lotta Goals - The Battle of Alberta & 2nd Round of NHL Playoffs

Ray and Darren delve into the wild start to the Battle of Alberta - how it was fun for everyone - except if you were a goalie.  They talk expectations for Game 2 including for the goaltending to look much better on both ends of the ice and what playing style it will take to get through. The guys discuss the Tkachuk family and why no one should be slamming Brady for cheering on his brother Matthew in the playoffs - and having fun while doing so. Ray discusses whether Tampa is now fully switched into '3-peat mode'. The guys look at the Leafs offseason and what their on-ice priorities should be going into next year. and what's going on with the coaching rumor mill and Vegas and all the big coaching names on the market and teams waiting for Trotz to decide where he's going first.

#AskRayandDregsAnything sees questions on whether there's a benefit to lack of travel in a series like the Battle of Alberta and get into the late start times and if that throws a wrench into a player's gameday preparations, and what Ray's biggest surprise of the playoffs thus far is.

Coolbet Kris joins and talks about the over-under being 6.5 goals, and that typically being a higher number for the 2nd round of the playoffs and some value on betting the 'under' where the goaltending is stronger. Also touch on the PGA Championship and Rory's first round, and a few interesting live betting options, and Darren gets the guy's opinions on whether the O-Dog actually shot 65 - or not.
