    63. John Steel - The Animals

John Steel is a founding member of the brilliant 60s group, THE ANIMALS!
The group were one of the leading bands of the British Invasion and had 10 top 20 hits both in the UK and US but will be forever remembered for one of the classic songs of all time, their rendition of House of the Rising Sun.
Bruce Springsteen publicly declared The Animals as his favourite British group of the 60s, while Bob Dylan changed his sound after hearing them. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 in a class alongside Elton John, Sir Rod Stewart, Bob Marley, John Lennon and the Grateful Dead!
In this interview John tells great stories from their time in the US, the crazy reception they received from the airport, falling out with Nina Simone, partying with Hermans Hermits and so much more!

*THIS DAY ROCKS* How Does It Feel?

On this day in rock we talk about the song that Rolling Stone magazine voted the best Bob Dylan song of all time. A panel of writers, academics and musicians including Bono and Keith Richards cast their vote to celebrate Bob's 70th birthday back in 2011. The results of that poll were made public on this day in 2011. With me to talk about this poll and the winning song is Stephen Arnoff from "Bob Dylan: About Man and God and Law"

Fab!! Do NOT miss!!

The VRP is the best rock music podcast you’ll ever hear. The roster of guests that Paul has interviewed is extremely eclectic and covers the whole gamut of styles and genres that have developed since modern rock music took off in the 60s, including many, many hall-of-fame inductees and influential musicians and singers. I cannot recommend this podcast highly enough! If you decide to subscribe, do go back to the beginning and work your way through the early episodes, for some real gems. If, like me, you love hearing stories about life in a band, life on-the-road, and how songs and collaborations came about, you’ll not be disappointed. Enjoy!!

Excellent podcast

I’ve never really been a podcast person to be honest, but these are really good. So much information, insights and chat that has made lockdown just a little bit easier. Great alternative to listen to in the car to help the journey pass quicker.
