He was born Hamish Watson, a surfie dude from Sydney – but he could morph into whatever you needed him to be. Hamish is due to be sentenced to jail in early 2019 for swindling a handful of victims out of more than $7m. But these crimes are just the final pages in a resume too thick to staple; for decades he’s duped victims in the US, Canada, Britain, Hong Kong and Australia. How did he do it? Great but why are we not acknowledging ‘Jane’ was a victim of grooming?
I’m absolutely loving this podcast after my sister recommended it to me. I lived in NZ for years and so miss a lot of the news in Aus and NZ now I’m in the UK. I love it but I am absolutely shocked and disgusted at the lack of empathy for ‘Jane’ who was a minor and who was clearly groomed and herself a victim. The host seems somewhat empathetic but fails to acknowledge she was groomed like others and she was a child and that in itself should have been a line of enquiry with police - he coercively controlled her and she was his victim. Jack and Bec being made out to be so admirable - yes, but as a woman I’d have been more angry that my husband was a creep, a pervert and a nasty predator.
Fascinating, engaging, disturbing
This podcast follows the path of destruction of an Australian criminal, and - like all the best true crime podcasts - also shines a light on a society that allows (and sometimes encourages) the narcissism / criminality.
Intriguing
A really amazing true story of a man who had some brass neck to live the life he did ! Thoroughly fascinating podcast .
