Anita Chinyere Hogan-Mak makes her writing debut as the author of Daydream Or Be Left Behind.
In this, the first episode of the Africa Web TV Book Club Podcast with Femi Soewu, Anita C. Hogan-Mak discusses, amongst other topics, what motivated her to become an author, the influence her Nigerian background in her writing, the challenges she faced writing and publishing her first novel.
Daydream Or Be Left Behind is a book that explores themes of love, family, urban migration and financial struggles in the Nigeria/Lagos setting.
Anita Chinyere Hogan-Mak was born in Lagos by an inter-ethnic couple. Even though she was born in Lagos, she spent a better part of her childhood travelling around Nigeria because of her father who was a military officer with postings in several parts of Nigeria. Her knowledge of Nigeria and Lagos especially is reflected in her debut novel.
Apart from being a first-time novelist, Anita C. Hogan-Mak is also a mother, actress, activist, philanthropist and motivational speaker!

Hello listeners, welcome to The African Narratives where we celebrate the diverse stories, cultures, and experiences of Africa. This is truly a special episode as Africa Web TV recently had the distinct honour of sitting down with one of Africa's most legendary musicians and a true vocal powerhouse. With a voice that resonates through the ages, and melodies that transcend cultural boundaries, he is none other than the renowned Salif Keita, the "Golden Voice of Africa."
Beyond the stage, Salif Keita's advocacy work has ignited a global movement for the rights and acceptance of individuals with albinism. We delve into the motivations behind his tireless efforts and how his music has become a beacon of hope for the marginalised.
We met Salif Keita backstage for this interview shortly after his
mesmerising set during the 2023 edition of the Sfinks festival in Belgium. Salif Keita told us he was not comfortable doing the
interview in English but as I could not speak a word of French, he
agreed to try and help us out!
