How to Recover From A Slip Up With Compassion

How to Recover From A Slip Up With Compassion

“We all make mistakes” - you’ve heard that so many times that I bet it’s practically meaningless. It’s like a bland hallmark card inscription that has zero power for most of us. Many people who are working on improving their relationship with food, such as stopping binge eating or emotional eating say their #1 struggle is how to recover after slipping up.
Knowing what to do AFTER a slip is often more important than perfecting the art of preventing them. Yes, we want to prevent them, too, But if we focus all of our efforts on the things we need to do to prevent binges or overeating incidents, a client is left with a major problem when slips happen.

Join Georgie and Christina in this episode to hear how we guide our clients through the skill of managing slip ups with compassion. You will hear how to identify where you are amongst the four stages of pathology in a slip up condition, along with our practical guide of do's and don'ts when you find yourself in the aftermath of a slip up.

What You Can Do If You Have Both Binge Eating And Depression

What You Can Do If You Have Both Binge Eating And Depression

To unlock this and ALL the subscribers-only episodes with real clients and conversations, join us at georgiefear.com/podcast.

Depression impacts a lot of people with binge eating disorder. Research studies have determined that out of 100 people with B. E. D., between 32 and 40 of them have co-occurring major depression. Approximately 1 in 5 people with major depressive disorder also suffers from binge eating symptoms. All of this is to say that it's not at all rare to be managing B. E. D. along with another condition.

That is why in today's episode, Georgie shares not only the links between, the struggles and stigmas, and the most effective treatments to overcome these health conditions. Bear in mind that these are complex ailments and managing them nearly always requires a synthesis of approaches.

Treatments encompass psychological lifestyle, pharmacological, and social supports. Some of them are personal, some of them require a professional, some are free, and some cost money or time. Some may come easily to you, while others may require considerable bravery or effort.

The message we want to leave you with today is one of hope. You don't have to choose between treating your depression or treating your binge eating. The same road applies to healing both. If you have a question you'd like for us to answer, need some help or support, or just aren't sure where to turn, reach out to us at georgiefear@gmail.com or by using the chat function at confidenteaters.com and we will do our best to point you in the right direction.

While she has already started making some really brave changes, Luisa is still getting tripped up whenever her routine changes during holidays, traveling for work, or if she is dealing with a heavy emotional upset. She wants to know how to handle a scarcity mindset, when she finds herself in different environments, or when food is over-available.

If you struggle with any of these challenges, then you are not going to want to miss this episode! We will share how to incrementally build your confidence when it comes to using emotional regulation tools more consistently. Let's help Luisa!

Research on Food Addiction and BED

Research on Food Addiction and BED

Have you ever wondered if you are addicted to food? Can someone be addicted to food like they can be to alcohol and other substances? Many of our clients feel out of control around certain foods, and may feel as though they are food addicted, which is why we thought this would be an important topic to cover together.
Each month, the coaches at confident eaters explore topics related to challenges we see our clients facing so that we can better support them in our work together. In today's podcast episode, you are going to hear Georgie, Maryclaire, and Christina talk about some research surrounding the idea of Food addiction and differing views on its validity.
In this conversation, the Confident Eaters team explores various aspects of food addiction and binge eating disorder. You will hear us discuss differences among clients, variations in eating behaviors, and the impact of relationships on food-related behaviors. We also delve into gender differences in binge eating disorder and personality traits associated with eating disorders. We will highlight the complexities of these concerns and the challenges faced by individuals seeking treatment, including the role of hyper-palatable foods, and the importance of promoting self-efficacy and flexibility in recovery efforts.

We know behavior change means changing our behaviors, which means that we have to give up on some things that may feel like comfortable, familiar routines. If you've attempted to change a longstanding behavior in the past, then you know it is a lot easier said than done.

You may have found that despite repeated efforts to change your behaviors, you keep finding yourself back at the same place doing the same old things. You're not alone. Smart, successful, capable people often find this is the case when it comes to food. They admit they're doing the same old things and they aren't working. Today, we will talk about how to get yourself over that threshold to do something new and different.

What hidden force is it that keeps us stuck? Join Georgie and Christina as we talk about a few potential causes and how you can get yourself unglued to finally leave behind the patterns that aren't working for you and try that new, different way.

If you want to learn how to do something new and unfamiliar, then check out this week's episode.
