MINI: A year on from protests, Dean reflects on the importance of IDAHOBIT
A year ago on IDAHOBIT, Dean was in a full drag face doing JOY Breakfast with Rach ready to do do a drag story time like none he had done before.
With over 40 people protesting the event in Eltham, but even more coming together to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ communities and Rainbow Families, this was also the day that the Rainbow Community Angels were born, a grass roots initiative that has community coming together to allow rainbow youth events to not only survive, but thrive.
In this day last year Dean (as Frock) made national news, but was also a part of a community wave that helped changed the narrative about story time in mainstream media.
But how are things one year on.
He takes a minute out of JOY Breakfast to reflect on that. -
Tom Nethersole debuts TWINK
Newsreader Craig is going to be jealous that Rach and Dean had a Twink in the studio, well on the JOY airwaves anyway, as they chatted to queer pop sensation Tom Nethersole who released his brand new song, TWINK, today on IDAHOBIT.
Follow Tom online and on socials and dance to his music that’s so very out loud and proud. -
How’d Dean go training with the Melbourne Chargers?
With the JOY Radiothon weeks away, Dean has to cross off some of the Tower of Torment challenges from last year, so he headed to training with Melbourne’s inclusive rugby club, the Melbourne Chargers.
How did he go in the scrum?
Can he walk the morning after?
Will he be back?
Rach finds out on our fabulous IDAHOBIT FriYAY.

But as today is his first IDAHOBIT as Mayor, they find out how Yarra is highlighting the day.

Pride Families – QUILTBAG Story Time
For IDAHOBIT, Rach and Dean grabbed a book of a different kind for QUILTBAG Story Time, as the talked about PRIDE Families by Amie Taylor & Kaspa Clarke.
This educational children’s book explores what these families look like with a focus on trans, non-binary, gay, lesbian and polyamorous family set ups. Covering themes such as, pregnancy, donor conception and surrogacy alongside a guide for adults that helps explain terminology, this book is an invaluable resource for sharing and celebrating what it means to be a Pride family.
Families come in all different shapes and sizes, and each one is perfect!
