Now retired, he has become an Addictions Medicine Specialist, and is a past president of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine and of the Addiction Medicine Section of the Alberta Medical Association. He suffered an aortic aneurysm 12 years ago but was able to continue working with the aid of crutches.
