"LFG" with Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer, X-Men '97, and The Bad Batch reviews

We got a red-band Deadpool and Wolverine trailer and our usual looks at The Bad Batch and X-Men ’97!

0:50 – Deadpool and Wolverine Trailer

We first see Wolverine in (where else) a bar

Deadpool interrupts Wolverine in perfect Deadpool fashion

Another view of The Void scene we got in the previous trailer, complete with another look at the 20th Century Fox logo

A scene we’ve all waited decades for, HUGH JACKMAN IN COSTUME!

Could this be a row of tombstones like in Days of Future Passed? Or a border of some kind?

This is likely a dead variant of Wolverine because Paradox refers to him as “This Wolverine…”

Deadpool responds with low blows… or shots… of his own

The obligatory slow motion walk through a backdrop of destruction

Deadpool displays a Hard R level violence we’ve come to expect from a Deadpool movie

More of the initial throwdown between the two anti-heroes. Deadpool now uses the adamantium katanas we saw him get in the last trailer

Deadpool getting thrown (or punched) out of an SUV

Emma Corrin as the villain Cassandra Nova

The villains’ base appears to be inside the carcass of a dead Giant-Man variant.

The car from Captain America: The First Avenger

Wolverine gargles Jack Daniels because of course he does

This Mad Max tribute uses motorcycles from previous MCU movies

Cassandra Nova can forcibly control Wolverine’s actions, making him stab himself

Wolverine uttering “Let’s F***ing Go!” the tagline of the movie

The two frenemies jump through a portal to end the trailer

We know from the first trailer that The TVA sent a retired Deadpool to correct the timeline. Deadpool sees Wolverine’s corpse during this initial meeting. Given the rumors that Marvel’s Phase 6 will culminate with characters from the multi-verse, this variant may be destined to be in that final battle, which is why Deadpool has to grab him in the first place.

    8:00 – X-Men ’97

I know I’ve said it often, but there is a lot of stuff on this show that wouldn’t have made the airwaves in the 1990s. Murder by suffocation is another one. Heck, even a funeral was probably too dark for Saturday morning TV.

We got a lot of hints and Easter eggs as well. Cameos from Captain America and General Thunderbolt Ross, a mention of The Hulk, and a hint at The Avengers. Having Bastion as the surprise villain is a very good twist since most of the attention was given to Sinister.

16:45 – The Bad Batch “Fast Strike”

What the heck are these boxes for?

Transformers One Trailer, Bad Batch and X-Men ’97 Reviews

Transformers One Trailer, Bad Batch and X-Men ’97 Reviews

Paramount dropped the first trailer for the latest Transformers reboot, Transformers One. Plus we have our regularly scheduled reviews of The Bad Batch and X-Men ’07.

    2:00 – Transformers One Trailer

We have a rundown of the screencaps here.

It’s yet another Transformers reboot. This time, it looks to be aiming for the Pixar/Nickelodeon audience with celebrity voices and a bigger emphasis on comedy.

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=5a09yJU-mCI%3Ffeature%3Doembed

The Transformers franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary this year! Years ago, we covered the various incarnations of Transformers in a past episode of Nostalgia Trip.

This latest reboot is unique in that it is a full-on origin story for two of its iconic characters: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Sure, Prime’s origin was told in the original Sunbow animated series, but this film will go into much more detail.

Orion PAX and D-16 bickering like kids waiting in the Principal’s Office

Pax and D-16 get sent to sanitation, possibly by Sentinel Prime

    B-127, the future Bumblebee

D-16 looking over a fallen friend. Alpha Trion perhaps?

The two fly with the addition of jetpacks in what may be an easter egg reference to the original TV series.

All four heroes enjoying the view atop a giant train

    Rabbits in disguise?

    The four main characters.

Alpha Trion grants the heroes the ability to transform

Now that they can transform, the four look a little close to their classic looks

Bumblebee still trying to get the hang of transforming

    Quintessons!

Elta-1’s vehicle form looks to be a motorcycle

Orion in his “space truck” vehicle form

Soundwave, Starscream, and Shockwave, OH MY!

Skywarp on a collision course with his future leader

B-127 surprises himself with a face shield

There is definitely some stuff in here that will rub die-hards the wrong way. Most notably the depiction of young Prime and Megatron in a buddy-cop style adventure. But there is also a lot of great stuff here such as nods to Alpha Trion and the menacing Quintessons.

16:35 – The Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 13 “Into The Breach”

    MAJOR POINTS

    * The heroes are on their way to Mount Tantiss

    * Omega is plotting an escape from Mount Tantiss

Omega befriends the lab children and plans her escape, while Echo steals a shuttle and meets the heroes on Bespin. They attach the shuttle to an Imperial transport, heading to Mount Tantiss, despite Rampart’s persistent complaints and negativity.

    MAJOR QUESTIONS

    * How will they arrive on Tantiss? Surely the Imperials will notice a shuttle attached to the ship?

    * Will any of the final episodes be longer than normal?

    * Could we see the backdoor pilot of another series set post-Clone Wars?

Superman v. Lightsabers, plus Bad Batch & X-Men 97 reviews

Superman v. Lightsabers, plus Bad Batch & X-Men 97 reviews

Since the news is boring we’ll talk a little geek lore. Lightsabers can allegedly cut through anything and Superman is invulnerable. So what happens if you try to cut Superman with a lightsaber?

After that discussion, we’ll dive back into our usual reviews of The Bad Batch and X-Men ’97.

    1:00 – Superman vs. Lightsabers

Superman is invulnerable and a lightsaber can cut through anything. So what happens if you strike Superman with a lightsaber?

    15:15 – Bad Batch Epsiode 12

Some people may call this a filler show, and I certainly wouldn’t argue against that. After all, the heroes didn’t know anything more than they did at the beginning of the episode. But if you’re going to have a filler episode, this is how you do it. This was chocked full of swashbuckling action and a little character development to boot.

    19:45 – X-Men ’97 Episode 5

The team is together, Genosha could become part of The UN, everybody is happy… What could possibly go wrong?…

Tales of the Empire Trailer, Bad Batch and X-Men '97 Reviews

Tales of the Empire Trailer, Bad Batch and X-Men '97 Reviews

Plus our obligatory looks at this week’s episodes of The Bad Batch and X-Men ’97.

0:48 – Tales of the Empire Trailer

This looks like it is telling two stories: one for Morgan Elsbeth, and the other for Barris Offee.

    12:00 – Bad Batch Review

These covered a LOT of ground. Episode 10 was mostly plot with little action that centered around the villains while Episode 11 was mostly action that put the heroes on the defense. It looks like we are entering the third act of the season.

    20:40 – X-Men ’97

Much like the double episode of Bad Batch, this was a story primarily with action paired with a story that was primarily story and character building. Though they summarized a lot of the story from the comics into one episode. My guess is so they could leave the episode on a cliffhanger with the giant bird capturing Storm. The Adversary took many forms over the years in the comics.

The Acolyte Trailer Controversy, Bad Batch and X-Men'97 Reviews

The Acolyte Trailer Controversy, Bad Batch and X-Men'97 Reviews

What can we expect from The Acolyte, plus reviews of X-Men ’97 Episode 3, and The Bad Batch episode The Harbinger

    1:00 – Acolyte Expectations

The Acolyte trailer debuted with a lot of controversy. But what are people complaining about? What does “Frozen meets Kill Bill” even mean? What can we expect? And where does this fit in the official or Legends Canon?

Going by the timeline, Darth Tenebrous would be the Sith Lord, or Sith Apprentice. Yes, a Bith Sith… you know there was going to be one sooner or later…

But the creators have said a few things that don’t sound very reassuring when it comes to what the show is about.

    12:05 – Bad Batch Season 3, Episode 9

The original written review can be found here.

The big news is the return of Asajj Ventress. We knew it was coming this season because of the trailers, but this was her full-fledged return. And while we don’t see how she is alive after her demise in the novel Dark Disciple, we do get to see her kick butt Batman-style again.

    1:15 – X-Men ’97 Episode 3 “Fire Made Flesh”

This had a lot of stuff that wouldn’t have been seen on broadcast Saturday morning TV. It condensed a lot of the Inferno storyline into one episode. But we did get a PG-friendly version of Goblin Queen’s outfit.

Review Doubleshot: X-Men '97 Premiere and Bad Batch "Bad Territory"

Review Doubleshot: X-Men '97 Premiere and Bad Batch "Bad Territory"

It’s a doubleshot of reviews today with the series premiere of X-Men ’97 and the latest episode of The Bad Batch.

    1:15 – X-Men ’97 Premiere

You can find the full review here. But this went the extra mile to feel like it was still a 1990s creation. Though there were a few deviations in dialog and things that definitely would NOT be used on an animated broadcast network series.

Uncanny X-Men #200 depicted The Trial of Magneto! The first one…

Storm’s mohawk look from the 1980s may be coming back

    Speaking of Jean…

What’s with the two Jean Greys anyway?

This may be tricky to explain concisely. The Dark Phoenix Saga was adapted in the original TV series. But there is history in the comics, namely Madelyne Pryor and the Inferno storyline, that can be adapted into this season. Assuming this isn’t some sort of new time-travel story since Bishop is involved.

    12:05 – Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 8

The original written review can be found here.

This was the season’s weakest episode because it felt like a side quest you’d take in an RPG game that has little impact on the main story. That said, it was still enjoyable. Seeing another swamp planet that felt like “Space Louisiana”. So much so I could hear the classic Jerry Reed song “Amos Moses” playing in my head.

Who could Fennic be talking to in the last scene? There are other options, but one makes the most sense…
