Today we looked at Matthew 24:15-22 which concerns Jesus’ quoting a prophesy made by the prophet Daniel (See Dan.924-27 and Dan.11:35), which refers to a thing standing n the holy place (or temple) that makes ‘desolate’. What could Daniel have been speaking about? What could Jesus have been speaking about? There are many possibilities, but here are the top 5: 1. What Antiochus IV Epiphanes did in 167BC 2. What Emperor Gaius planned to do in AD40-41 3. What the zealots did in AD67/68 4. What the Romans did in AD70 5. A future event to be carried out by the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction (See 2 Thess.2:1-4). To view the full video from today, just click on this link!

There would be a lot of obstacles for Christ’s disciples to overcome in the years leading up to the Destruction of The Temple in 70 AD. There were some certain signs that the disciples would see, including being delivered to tribulation, experience martyrdoms, betrayals, hated, lack of love – and yet Jesus assured His disciples that THIS GOSPEL of THE KINGDOM would go out to the WHOLE WORLD! How encouraging this must have been for them. Jesus didn’t promise them a walk in the park, trouble-free, without any opposition. If He had, they would surely have soon become very discouraged once it all began to happen in the years leading up to 70AD. And what can be said about the church of today, who have it relatively easy in some countries and amongst some people? And yet there is no real urgency to get the message of the Gospel out to the world! This should be a challenge to each and every one of us! Have the warnings given in Matt.24:4-8 perhaps often been taken out of context as if all have to do with futuristic “End-Time” events? Or could Jesus have been actually answering His disciples question(s) that they asked in v.3? And what was their question relating to? Could it have had something at all to do with what Jesus had said in vv.1-2 concerning The Destruction of The Temple? We think you will see from this passage that all the events were to do with things that would take place between AD33 and AD70, and in particular in relation to the years leading up to AD70. Of course Jesus didn’t state that these things WILL take place in 37 years or 40 years. But He told His disciples that certain events would precede this BIG EVENT, with one in particular being ‘The Revolt of the Jews’ against Roman Rule, a revolution or revolt that began in AD66 and was crushed by AD70 with the Destruction of the Temple and the Dispersion of the Jews to the nations. Did Jesus predict the events that took place in AD70? He told His disciples that the Temple would be destroyed. But after mentioning this, Jesus’ disciples asked Him at least two questions. We will be going into more detail of how Jesus answered these questions over the coming instalments of Matthew 24, but today we simple looked at the first three verses of this chapter.
