North Carolina is still in search of the guys it wants to fill the frontcourt vacancies left by Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram. One possibility to fill Ingram’s shoes is FSU transfer Jamir Watkins, who the Tar Heels got familiar with this year up close and personal. How would Watkins’ all-around game bring a unique dynamic to the Tar Heels?

Another potential target could be Samford transfer Achor Achor, who went toe to toe with Kansas and Hunter Dickinson in the NCAA Tournament, nearly taking down the mighty Jayhawks.

Regardless what happens with these two potential targets and Carolina choosing to pursue them, there are other frontcourt players out there for the Tar Heels to go after.

For the second straight day, one of Carolina’s frontcourt transfer portal targets chose a non-UNC option. On Sunday it was Rutgers transfer Cliff Omoruyi choosing Alabama and on Monday it was Kentucky transfer Adou Thiero picking Arkansas. What does this mean for the Tar Heels? Where do they turn next? Is it time for a reset? Is it time to consider playing to the current strengths of the roster more heavily? Will Carolina continue to consider transfer portal options? Will they take a serious look at players currently in the NBA Draft, but also in the transfer portal, like Illinois’ Coleman Hawkins?

Anything seems possible in conference realignment. North Carolina seems like they will either stay in the ACC or join the Big Ten or SEC, BUT - is there a world in which the Tar Heels would head to the Big 12?

Harrison Ingram is firmly in the 2024 NBA Draft (as far as we currently know), but what if he didn’t hear what he wanted and ultimately returned to Carolina? Assuming that Cliff Omoruyi also committed, UNC would be absolutely loaded. A likely starting lineup of Elliot Cadeau, RJ Davis, Cade Tyson, Ingram, and Omoruyi. Not to mention a stocked bench that includes Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Jae’lyn Withers, Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, Zayden High, and James Brown.

Speaking of Withers, he is officially back. That was the expectation all along, but Jon Rothstein confirmed it on Thursday. Omoruyi is currently on his visit to Chapel Hill – so go where you go, do what you do.

RJ Davis is returning to North Carolina for a 5th year. He’s already accomplished so much in a Tar Heel uniform, but what else can he do individually and at the team level to continue cementing his legacy? Cliff Omoruyi begins his Carolina visit today and many eyes are on the center position. But UNC is also looking for another PF, namely Adou Thiero. What happens if Thiero goes elsewhere? Will the Tar Heels pursue someone else or just stay put? Or hope that Harrison Ingram pulls out of the NBA Draft? The transfer portal has now closed.
