Sometimes it’s taking on gaming’s biggest issues with the history of the biz firmly in mind, sometimes it’s an open requiem for cool things, people, and places we miss, but there’s always an inside joke being slipped into the cracks as two gentlemen whose life paths have been forever woven together and influenced by this passion of theirs as console gaming enters its ninth generation.

Episode 51: The Looming Hollywood Gaming Gold Rush
The Six-Button Samurai and @GameAgentET (OGiH) take a look at the Amazon streaming series Fallout, based on Bethesda Software’s RPG franchise, just renewed for a 2nd season, while Fallout 4 gets a next-gen upgrade on PS5/XB (a mixed bag thus far), along with a sharp spike in interest in the entire line of games generated by the show. Given the success of Fallout and The Last of Us on streaming television, and Mario and Sonic at the box office, are video games finally due for a gold rush in movie/TV adaptations? With superhero movies seemingly in decline, this may be the time for games to shine. Eddy and JJJ also take on the rising expectations for JRPG localizations in Western markets, and observe the 35th anniversary of the first handheld gaming system that mattered, the Nintendo Game Boy! But they’re also knee-deep in chasing the retro gaming biscuit, as Eddy continues to play Shadow of the Ninja in anticipation of the Natsume-Atari remake due later this year and further experiments with the Taito Egret trackball, while JJJ continues to grind through Earthbound for SNES and Suikoden on the PlayStation. They also discuss aesthetic gripes over Stellar Blade and Star Wars: Outlaws, and both wax heavily about their desire to see Konami restored to their former glory. GameAgentET and The Six Button Samurai are squeezing the juice from a few different hot-button items fresh from the world of video games, chief among them what it means now that the developers of Yuzu, the Nintendo Switch emulator, have settled out of court and will cease their activities following a big lawsuit from Nintendo. JJJ and Eddy also take on the red-hot rumor about a brand-new entry in the Virtua Fighter series, and what our hopes and concerns are for that series striving to make an impact in the modern fighting game arena. Last but certainly not least, we wrestle with the enormous creative legacy of Akira Toriyama, famed creator of Dragon Ball and countless other comics, anime, and manga properties, who passed away last week at age 68.
