Hebh Aljamal, who grew up in New York, is a remarkable Palestinian-American journalist, who currently lives in Germany and is shockingly facing legal prosecution because of her Palestine activism.

In this episode of PalCast, Yousef Aljamal, Helena Cobban and Tony Groves speak about the German position on Israel in relation to its history, and their declared commitment to human rights!

From Berlin to New York and elsewhere in the US, pro-Palestine protesters are sending a clear message: We are with Palestine. The German police responds by shutting down the Berlin Congress on Palestine, where Hebh was speaking, and the administration of Columbia University in the US responds by calling the police on students. We talk about all these issues and how they are building up to the end of apartheid in Palestine after 200 days of genocide in Gaza.

Elbit Systems, Israel’s leading weapon manufacturing, is playing a major role in the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Huda Ammori, a co-founder of the Palestine Action Group spoke to PalCast co-hosts about the role of Israeli firm in the genocide in Gaza, campaigns against Elbit; successes and failures.

Ammori, who is facing court cases because of her activism, argues that Elbit Systems, an arm of the Israeli state, should not be allowed to operate in the UK, which claims to have strict criteria for arms exports. From drones to the navy, Elbit Systems continue to kill Palestinians and campaigns against it just expand. Learn more about Elbit Systems in this PalCast episode with Yousef Aljamal, Helena Cobban and Tony Groves.

Helena also brilliantly breaks down the Iran attack on Israel.

As Israeli forces withdrew from Khan Younis, after four months of military operations they were ambushed by Palestinian fighters. Israel, it's clear, did not achieve its two stated goals of releasing the hostages and of eliminating Hamas.

However once the IOF retreated, dozens of bodies of Palestinians were found decomposed. Over 45,000 houses in Khan Younis were destroyed and entire neighborhoods were leveled to the ground. The situation in Gaza remains dire as Palestinians celebrate Eid on April 10, one of the saddest Eid occasions since the Nakba.

International pressure for ceasefire and recognition of a Palestinian state continues. Yousef Aljamal, Helena Cobban and Tony Groves discuss this and more in this episode.

The EU, which has advocated for human rights globally, has failed in Gaza. Some EU politicians understand the reality in Gaza, but they only talk about Rafah and humanitarian aid. Others understand but they refrain from talking and a third group don’t know (or don't want to know?) what is going on.

Israel, on the other hand, continues its atrocities; burning Al-Shifaa Hospital and killing 7 international aid workers. Yousef Aljamal, Helena Cobban and Tony Groves discuss these issues with Palestinian writer and advocate, Mohamed Shehada.

Alexandria Saleem is a first-generation Palestinian American from Gaza, whose family was displaced in 1948 and 1967. She joins PalCast co-hosts Yousef Aljamal, Helena Cobban and Tony Groves to talk about Gaza and how the genocide in Gaza resulted in the killing of many of her cousins, but also helped her forge ties with family that enabled her to better organize and advocate on their behalf in the US.

Alexandria highlights the importance of working with allies and not compromising on discourse and the need for an immediate, effective and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. She calls for more engagement with Palestinians inside and outside Palestine at this critical juncture in Palestinian history in order for Palestinians to reclaim their voice and tell their personal stories.

Chris Andrews is a Sinn Fein TD who has many memories of Gaza, from going to the beach and fishing (badly) to watching Palestinians circling around TVs to watch Spanish La Liga football. These memories are now of places that are now in ruins. PalCast co-hosts, Yosef, Helena and Tony talk to him about how we could see what is happening in Gaza today through sports lens, recalling the killing of the four Baker Boys who were killed in Gaza while playing football on the beach and discussing how he took off his jacket to show a Palestinian jersey to protest Joe Biden’s speech to the Irish parliament. The situation in Gaza is still as bad, with starvation spreading in the north, as the world comes with less creative ideas such as airdropping aid and building a seaport when there is one already.

Great Show

I'm so sorry for your loss of Dr Refaat. You paid him a wonderful tribute and he'd be proud of you all.

Great so far

I am a fan of the tortoise shack and they've done the best coverage of Palestine in Ireland for years. So I wasn't surprised that they were part of this new podcast. But I am delighted with the output. Anyone who wants to know about the conflict or anyone who wants context should listen to this. Start with the episode on Hamas
