Reselling and a Pandemic Pivot with Carla Morris

Reselling and a Pandemic Pivot with Carla Morris

In this episode, I sat down with Carla Morris, owner of The Frugal Hanger, and chatted about her decision to pivot from her career as a hairstylist to a full-time reseller of clothing and accessories.
We chat about tricks to her trade, selling on Instagram, and what’s next for her business.
Since she graduated high school, she has been behind the chair in the salon. Coming from a long line of antique dealers, she has sold her own second-hand finds on eBay and Instagram for many years. When Covid hit, she wasn’t sure when she would be able to open her salon again, and coupled with salon burnout, she took it as a sign to go full-time reselling clothing and accessories from the ’50s to the '90s.

Building a Grassroots Brand with Brooke Gordon

Building a Grassroots Brand with Brooke Gordon

Brooke Gordon's brand, Beetroot, was born out of her journey to wellness and her passion for sharing healthy recipes. Her grassroots efforts like sharing healthy treats with friends, hosting a farm-to-table event at a local farm, bringing a farmer's market to downtown Defiance, Ohio, and hosting multiple educational events have led to her being a well-respected resource on holistic wellness. Brooke's family comes first, and her business has been built around her life (not the other way around). I admire her ability to execute different business strategies while her brand stays consistent, and becomes more rooted in Northwest Ohio.

    Branding 101 with Gretchen Clark

    Branding 101 with Gretchen Clark

A pretty logo and website won't sell you or your products on their own. Branding is both words and the aesthetic combined. Whether I'm consulting with a  new entrepreneur or an established small business, my initial questions are all the same. Follow along as I go through questions you should be asking yourself to make sure your brand stands the test of time and can stand out amongst all the noise.

Download the Branding 101 worksheet to take notes during the episode or work on afterward.

Guest Gretchen Clark with March 4th Design joins in on the conversation. She has been a graphic designer for over 18 years and dives deeper into branding and brand identity.

Business Ownership and Breaking Stereotypes with Ian Weber

Business Ownership and Breaking Stereotypes with Ian Weber

I somehow convinced the hubs to hop on the podcast and discuss business ownership and how he calculates when it's a good idea to buy-in or start a business. Ian is an attorney and has ownership in a rental business, a farm, commercial real estate, and a title company.  I find out his motivation for (multi) business ownership and why he chooses partnerships over sole proprietorships. With 10 years of experience in business ownership, I appreciate Ian's advice and guidance when making decisions for my business. I jokingly call him my dream killer (it's probably hard living with someone who has so many ideas and dreams, haha!), when actually he's more like a dream underwriter, helping me assess risks and project the return on those decisions. We also talk a little bit about dishes, dreams, and supporting your partner.

Growing Kids and a Business with Diana Giesige

Growing Kids and a Business with Diana Giesige

Diana has always been creative, but it wasn't until she bought a nice camera and started photographing her kids, that she realized she had found a passion that would turn into a successful business. She started Odelia Photography in her 18th-century farmhouse while raising three kids, lots of animals, and keeping 100 plants alive (impressive). Diana is transparent about the hurdles and supports it takes to run your own business while balancing the mom life.
