How Good Are The 2024 Buffalo Bills Right Now?

How Good Are The 2024 Buffalo Bills Right Now?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran's joined in studio by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for a conversation on a handful of topics, including how good they think the 2024 Buffalo Bills are internally and compared to the rest of the league now that the NFL draft has passed.
It's certainly been an eventful offseason for the Bills---one which has seen significant change. Gone are several veterans and leaders such as Mitch Morse, Tre White, Jordan Poyer, Michael Hyde and Gabe Davis. Of course, the Bills also traded top receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for 2025 draft capital. They've also added free agent talent to the team such as Curtis Samuel, Mike Edwards and Austin Johnson in addition to their draft class highlighted by Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop.
It feels like on paper it's clear they've taken a step back--but is that the reality? The guys both have a variety of opinions on how this team looks as presently constructed and how they stack up against their peers around the league.
That plus the Boulevard Mall has shut down, learning that a high school football & baseball coach from nearly 35 years ago is still alive and well---and plenty more. Follow Tone Pucks on Twitter @TonePucksRedux

How Much Does Keon's Coleman's Personality Matter?

How Much Does Keon's Coleman's Personality Matter?

Today on Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is debuting a newly titled segment called "Pod Synergy" in which the narrative of the episode is completely controlled by takes and questions submitted by listeners and viewers of the show.
Previously this was called "Fan Friday" but guess what---- it's not a Friday and when these episodes will drop will vary so we're going with a name change. Featured today are several comments/questions from fans about the Buffalo Bills and the recent NFL draft, including a really good question asking how much of a factor, if any was the selection of Keon Coleman in the second round based on his personality and the type of relationship the organization expects Coleman to have with with Josh Allen. It's certainly a fair point to ponder as it became apparent that what many perceived as the premature trading of Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans was based in part on a relationship with Josh that may have deteriorated. Obviously Brandon Beane isn't going to make that high of a selection based purely on personality but to say it didn't matter would probably be a lie as well.
Also, what specifically did Patrick most like and not like about the Bills draft? What incumbent Bills players were the biggest winners and losers of this latest Buffalo draft haul? Who were the biggest draft steals around the league?
That plus thoughts on Lindy Ruff, a friend of Patrick's considering him smug and much more today. These fan narrative controlled "Pod Synergy" episode will air semi-regularly with no set dates but you can typically expect them on Wednesdays.

Favorite NFL Team Drafts, Plus Bills Roster Outlook

Favorite NFL Team Drafts, Plus Bills Roster Outlook

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to go over who they feel had the best crop of selections around the league last week in addition to a discussion about if the Buffalo Bills are really doing everything in their power to put a championship caliber team on the field.
While the Bills are obviously not looking to throw in the towel on the 2024 season, Patrick thinks it's obvious that they're not as fully committed to use every imagine resource to give them the best chance to win a Super Bowl this season. He points to the Stefon Diggs trade for an asset in 2025 as well as how this 2024 draft just went down for the Bills.. Does Anthony agree? He's got plenty to say as well.
It's certainly not all doom and gloom with the Bills regardless of how you feel about their title chances. The guys talk about good ascending talent expected to take on even bigger roles with the team and improvements over last year in some areas, including defensive tackle depth and maybe even the safety position.
They also objectively each give a list of their favorite collective team drafts from around the league, including some begrudging credit to a few of Buffalo's biggest rivals. That and plenty more. Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino

Bills Biggest 2024 Draft & Roster Takeaways

Bills Biggest 2024 Draft & Roster Takeaways

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the 2024 NFL draft is in the books and Patrick Moran's joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss some of their biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways from it in addition to makeup of the roster as things stand.
From round one all the way through the end of the seventh there were at least a couple of surprises Buffalo pulled off, including trading down twice and ultimately out of the first round all together. The guys have thoughts on that decision and passing up on taking Xavier Worthy or Xavier Legette to selection Keon Coleman at the start of round two and pick up a third-round pick.
As you'd suspect neither is happy and particularly Joe that Buffalo didn't take multiple wide receivers, which makes you wonder if they ultimately would've been better off just keeping Stefon Diggs for another season despite any potential lingering drama. That's discussed as well as Patrick's theory that the Bills view Mack Hollins significantly higher than many others. Also, are we pretty much blowing Curtis Samuel off?
Receiver debate it felt like a practical and good value draft for Buffalo as the guys discuss all the other picks and what their roles on this team could be for 2024.
That plus a pretty spirited conversation about how committed the Bills really are to trying to win a Super Bowl this year versus being set up for future years and much more. Follow Joe on Twitter @BuffaloWins.

Instant Reaction: Bills Add Three On Night Two

Instant Reaction: Bills Add Three On Night Two

On this rare weekend episode of Talking Buffalo, night two of the NFL draft is in the books and Patrick Moran's streaming live just minutes after, offering instant reaction to what Buffalo added to it's roster in rounds two and three.
The Bills stuck to the board with the first pick of round two and went with the 6-foot-4 big receiver from Florida State. Coleman 658 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns with the Seminoles last year and Patrick's got plenty thoughts on him, including loving the facts they'll be no "what ifs" with who the Bills wanted at receiver. Just as they could've taken Xavier Worthy or Xavier Legette on night one, Beane could've taken any receiver he wanted to begin the second round and landed on Coleman. Patrick goes through some Coleman's biggest strengths (size, competitive, run blocking) and weaknesses (straight line speed, separation skills) and what his fit on this team should be.
No trade up with their second of two second round picks either as Buffalo selected safety Cole Bishop of Utah, marking the second consecutive year Buffalo's plugged a prospect early from there (Dalton Kincaid). Patrick has thoughts on him, warning that fans shouldn't expect Bishop to be a plug-and-play starter but he's a ferocious, fearless and athletic safety that has impact starter potential and reminds him plenty of a young Jordan Poyer.
With their last pick of the night, they stood pat at No. 95 in round three and selected Duke defensive tackle DeWayne Carter. Patrick discusses liking him enough to not be infuriated that the Bills haven't double dipped at wide receiver and is instead merely disappointed.
Patrick also sets you up for the final day of the draft with some of the best available players positionally for Saturday's rounds four through seven finale.

Instant Reaction To The Bills Trading Down Twice Thursday

Instant Reaction To The Bills Trading Down Twice Thursday

On this special episode of Talking Buffalo, the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is in the books and Patrick Moran is up (very) late to provide instant reaction to the Buffalo Bills trading back not once, but twice near the end of the first round and leaving Thursday night without a pick.
The Bills traded down from 28 to 32 with Kansas City, allowing them to grab Xavier Worthy. They they traded down from the last pick of round one to the first of round two with Carolina, allowing the Packers to go get Xavier Legette. Obviously, Patrick's got a lot of thoughts, admittedly confused as they're in real time just minutes after the round ended.
Patrick also spends some time going over some of the things he was most surprised by---including six of the first 12 picks being quarterbacks and the first 14 picks being all offensive players. As for the big three receivers, all three were gone before the 10th pick and Patrick's at peace knowing if Beane wanted Rome Odunze bad enough, he was realistically there for the taking.
Patrick also hits on many of the top players positionally that could be in play for Buffalo heading into night two of the draft Friday night. That and plenty more.
