She finally found Dr. McFall's manuscript in the Fisk University archives. Though Dr. McFall did not intend its publication, Lahnice believes that Dr. McFall's voice needs to be heard and has relevance to today's issues about race in America.

We interview the author of Early Education of African America Pharmacists 1870-1975   
Largely forgotten are those African American pharmacy schools that were formed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries that are now defunct, but not before introducing a significant number of African American pharmacists into the profession for the first time in the history of the country. Although the schools did not survive the racism, economic, and social challenges during the time, they made significant contributions to the health of their communities and paved the way for the diversity and inclusion of African Americans in pharmacy that continues today. This book reviews seven schools that were established for the purpose of training African American pharmacists after the Civil War to service their communities but are now defunct; identifies some of the first college-trained African American pharmacists in the U.S.; introduces the first African American females to receive a pharmacy degree; and describes African American pharmacists who overcame, what may be considered insurmountable odds, to be successful practitioners and entrepreneurs for the benefit of their communities.

Pastor and Author Marvin Mims, Sr. He is the Pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church in Memphis, TN and a member of the Memphis Baptist Ministerial Association.  He is the Founder and President of B.O.L.D. BROTHERS, (BOLD) Brothers Offering Leadership Development, a mentoring program established in September 2001, for young men. Mims is also the Founder and President of MAN H.O.P.E. (Man Hour of Power Enrichment), established in July 2021, a ministry designed to empower men based at St. Mark Baptist Church.  He serves as a volunteer with ‘Arise to Read’ a program assisting second graders with their reading skills. His community service with BOLD includes mentoring in Shelby County Schools, delivering meals to Senior citizens for Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA), and providing meals to homeless individuals in downtown Memphis, TN.


Mims academic credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Crichton College in 2007 and a Graduate Degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University in 2017. He served from 1979 to 2011, in the United States Air Force, with a background in Information Technology and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant.  He has received the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal in conjunction with additional medals and awards during his military career. Mims provides support to Memphis Union Mission, Mid-South Food Bank, Sickle Cell Foundation of TN, Neshoba Community Resource Center: Memphis Lupus Support Group, and Bethel International Ministries in Kenya, East Africa. Marvin Mims Sr. is a native of Greenville, Mississippi. He is married to Anita, their children are Marvin Jr., Takenya, Tracy Ann, Joshua, and he has two grandsons Hazen and Addison.

Pastor Marvin Mims Sr. wrote and self published his first book titled “The Crossroads of Champions: Manhood, Military, Marriage & Ministry.” The interconnectedness of the lives of Rev. Dr. Johnny Clarence (J.C.) Bachus and Marvin Mims Sr. (A Well known late Pastor in Memphis who left him the church before his passing). While reading the book you will find that Pastor Mims faced discrimination throughout his life and in the military but he talks about empowerment and how he overcame certain trials. As well as the importance of mental health, therapy and having a solid family support system. Jerry is the New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of the graphic novels New Kid and Class Act.  New Kid is the only book in history to win the John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature (2020); the Kirkus Prize for Young Readers’ Literature (2019), and the Coretta Scott King Author Award for the most outstanding work by an African American writer (2020). We interview Mr. Moore a powerful speaker who leverages his story as at-risk youth to change the narrative for disadvantaged and underserved students. He teaches how he overcame being a low achieving student to working for some of the top consulting firms in the world. Mr. Moore leverages his experience with racism in corporate America as a diversity and inclusion speaker focusing on how to discuss race in the workplace.

Mr. Moore is a graduate of Norfolk State University where he achieved a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. He has over 20 years of experience as a federal government contractor as an information Technology and Cybersecurity Engineer. He has also worked as an educator in the public school system teaching technology.
