This six part serial lifts the lid on the complicated world of dog detectives and the pet community in Australia. Andrea Thiis-Evensen has spent the last two years following two competing real-life Ace Venturas, who dedicate their lives to finding stolen and missing animals, each with their own team of ex police officers, drone operators and hackers. The Dog Detective brings you inside ongoing cases and will attempt to unravel the complicated web of the pet detective community.

Four puppies are stolen and both detectives are on the case. After Kirilly posts a viral video of the distressed owner on her Facebook group, the page blows up. And then just when it seems all hope might be lost, someone comes forward, someone who knows exactly where the puppies are. But the clock is ticking as the tiny puppies have not yet learned to live without their mother.

Kirilly's service is growing, and the cases are piling up, but Anne-Marie is neck and neck, expanding her business and she is hiring more team members. Anne-Marie also launches a new service, which deals with legal matters. But they aren’t the only Alpha’s in town. It’s time to meet ‘Puppy Scam Detective’ Sandra. Sandra dedicates her time to help people who have become puppy scam victims, including a woman who not only had her money stolen, but also her identity.

Hate clubs and threatening phone calls
Being a dog detective is not an easy job, with the numerous cases and huge online following comes the trolls and haters. But Anne-Marie says the struggles she is facing go way beyond angry Facebook reviews. She believes there is an organized “hate club” out there, actively trying to discredit her. And then suddenly, one day as she is reading her kid a bedtime story, her phone rings. On the other end is a threatening stranger.

It turns out Anne-Marie is not the only pet detective out there, she has a competitor who does the same thing… and she works for free. Kirilly specialises in pet theft in Queensland. But there aren’t always happy endings as her client Codie found out. Codie had just adopted a puppy called Porky, but one day, when Porky was just a few weeks old, he went missing.
