In “The Remnant," Jonah Goldberg enlists a “Cannonball Run”-style cast of stars, has-beens, and never-weres to address the most pressing issues of the day. Is America doomed? Has liberalism failed? And will mankind ever invent something better than ‘90s-era “Simpsons?” Mixing political history, pop culture, rank punditry, and shameless book-plugging, Goldberg and guests will have the kinds of conversations we wish they featured on TV. And the nudity will (almost) always be tasteful. Brace your bingo cards.

What peeves Jonah about the Biden administration’s increasingly hostile stance towards Israel isn’t just the geopolitical recklessness, but also the political incompetence. This Ruminant is a fuming rant about abandoning allies, the Cult of Youth, and the war against all things normal. Jonah also responds to the drama he stirred up among the anti-Trump (and anti-anti-Trump) crowd.

Back from his trip to the Commentary offices in New York, Jonah is joined by Kevin Williamson to discuss his review of fatherhood so far, Jonah’s thoughts on the Broadway production of Tommy, and the corrupting influence of populism. The two also get into the state of U.S.-Israel relations and why rooting for your team is easier than reading Hayek. Stick around to learn about Kevin’s sorry football career.

    The Great Wimpification

Jonah drops by Commentary’s New York headquarters and holds John Podhoretz hostage for an hour and a half to discuss the Jews, Suicide of the West, and the allure of fame and TV. Stay tuned for a history of Commentary’s geographical history (who asked?), the decline of American journalism (spoilers!), and optimism about the future (really?). Also, happy birthday to The Fair Jessica.

    The Ruminant of Infinity

Spurred by Robert Kagan’s new book, Rebellion: How Antiliberalism Is Tearing America Apart--Again, and by Thursday’s Remnant, Jonah spends the majority of this interminable episode responding to Kagan’s critique of conservatism, from contextualizing William F. Buckley’s role on the right to recounting the left's history of intellectual anti-liberalism. Also, kudos to the frat bros who saved the American flag.

The thinest skinned man in podcasting

Just listened to Jonah’s latest 84 minutes of self-pitying rant about a host of subjects, from his longstanding hatred of Woodrow Wilson, his ‘to the core’ resentment of the fact his oft plugged books ‘Liberal Fascism’ & ‘Suicide of the West’ weren’t universally loved & seen as seminal works that should never be mocked or criticised by anyone, left or right. And don’t let anyone else write anything about Wilson & get any praise for it, cos Jonah gets vexed.
Then he moves on to confess he stuffed up a recent speech he delivered by putting too much work into it, while mentioning that, in fact, it was very well received & he only mentions it at all cos he’s such a perfectionist.
Next is the almost gleeful discussion of the LA council president caught on tape making racist, homophobic & generally unpalatable comments about fellow councillors. He use this as a hook to go on a very strange exposition of why in fact this type of language is okay & to be expected in everyday life. He stops short of saying she shouldn’t have resigned, cos she’s a Democrat & they should resign en masse right?
College students, the light bulb’s affect on humanity and then as a parting shot he lays into a number of people he ‘likes/respects’ for the sin of disagreeing with Jonah’s having taken them to task for the sin of sending one tweet lamenting the actions of Ben Sasse in quitting the senate and being very choosy about how & when he stood up for his principles against Trump.
Only Jonah gets to comment on his friends, unless of course Jonah is attacking his ‘friends’ that he ‘likes/respects’ but who happen to work for a competitor news & opinion site, The Bulwark.
This is self-indulgent, pitiable stuff from a thin skinned man-child who really doesn’t brook criticism or even mild push back very well and is failing to not be ‘a sanctimonious p***k’ about it.
