ABC Talent Showcase 2020: A Conversation with Arthur Davis

ABC Talent Showcase 2020: A Conversation with Arthur Davis

In this episode, I sit down with my ABC Showcase cast member, Arthur Davis, to talk about our experiences working with the network during the 2020 season.

ABC hosts a global search every year for underrepresented talent in the acting industry, and out of 20,000 actors who auditioned in LA, he and I were chosen alongside 14 other amazing performers. For anyone who is an aspiring actor or wants to learn more about how acting careers are made and sustained in such a competitive space, this episode is for you!

But more than that, I get a chance to learn about Arthur's life and aspirations for his career. He's a hilarious guy and it's a real honor to call him my friend in such a wild city and business.

I hope you enjoy the episode!

    Why I Write a Poem a Day

    Why I Write a Poem a Day

I meet so many writers who say they have trouble writing, but for me, I try to not put so much pressure on myself during the process.

In fact, I started 2020 by writing a poem every day, and now in July, I've written over 200 poems; all of which are an essential groundwork for me to develop into a full manuscript or larger project for the future.

In this podcast episode, I take the time to explain my writing process behind writing a poem every day, as well as what other writers can do to design a writing process for themselves. Of course, I realize that everyone's routine is different, but hopefully, this gives you some insight into how you can increase your awareness throughout the day and exercise your creativity to a point where you can control it, instead of it controlling you.

Thank you all so much for listening, and again, if you want to connect with me, find me on Instagram: @chaseyi_ or visit pspoets.com to learn more about what we do for writers!

    Being Prepared as an Actor

    Being Prepared as an Actor

For this week's acting tip, I wanted to explain how crucial it is for actors to be prepared for their auditions. But not only do you have to be prepared; you also need to execute what you prepare in order to find success.

I recently had an experience with this for my virtual call audition for NBC's The Voice. At the end of the day, regardless of being picked or not to move on to the next round, I can still take pride in knowing that I prepared myself beforehand and I executed what I prepared.

As an actor, that's the only thing you have control over; your hard work and dedication before the audition, and then how you do during the audition. That's your only job! Don't worry about booking the role or making tons of money or whatever, just ready yourself and seize your moment when the time comes.

Here's a link to the self-tape video I made last month:

    Inspirational Quotes

    Inspirational Quotes

In this episode, I share a few inspirational quotes to help fuel your mind and lighten your heart during these challenging times.

The world is filled with so much darkness lately, and instead of adding to that weight, I think it's better to focus on uplifting thoughts and words that can help make a positive difference.

I read a few quotes from this book: "You Had Better Make Some Noise," published by PHAIDON.

It's a really cool book that you can find online and I suggest you get a copy to keep on our desk at home whenever you need a quick respite from the news or social media.

Lastly, I just want to encourage everyone to be safe out there and always wear your mask. COVID-19 is a real threat and everyone has to do their part to curb the spread and heal the planet.

Thanks again for listening and don't forget to connect with me on IG: @chaseyi_

    Memorizing Lines

    Memorizing Lines

Now, I can't guarantee that what I do will work for you, but if you're having trouble memorizing your lines for a project or an audition, there are a few straightforward tools that can help.

In this episode, I break down my own approach for memorizing lines. From reading things over and over again to internalizing the words to give them greater meaning, these are approaches that always bring me success and I hope they'll do the same for you!
