Everyone wants to find themselves but so many of us are drowning in the rat race. Suffering from burnout, battling self sabotage, desperate for change. My aim is to inspire you to take the scary steps towards the life you deeply desire.

I'm Carla and I'm done censoring my voice. I have “taboo” topics to discuss that aren’t welcome elsewhere. I believe that sharing is the first step to healing. This is the unfiltered truth.

Expect a raw insight into my experiences, and those of my guests, on topics such as trauma, shame, relationships, mindset, abuse, addiction, confidence, self love and more

    Addicted to a H Addict

    Addicted to a H Addict

This was an extremely hard episode to record. It focuses on my experience of being in a relationship with a heroin addict. How it unfolded and how it changed me.

I hope it helps because I know there are so many women out there with someone in their lives who is struggling with addiction.

    In this episode:

Entering the relationship despite knowing he was likely to use again
Why I was drawn to trying to "save" him
The nature of our relationship and what it was like
The moment things became clear and I decided to leave
How the experience impacted me and what I learnt
How society is conditioned to turn a blind eye to addictions
How therapy and healing helps us recognise our own repeated patterns quicker

My retreat is just around the corner, 7-9th June, in the magical lands Donegal. If you're craving rest or feeling stuck in life, join us to pause, recharge and reflect.

I'd love to hear any feedback and thoughts on this episode! Please DM me on Instagram or drop a mail to wiseyourselfuppod@gmail.com.

The Body's Innate Ability to Heal with Steven Ebbers, Breathwork and Somatic Therapist

The Body's Innate Ability to Heal with Steven Ebbers, Breathwork and Somatic Therapist

One thing Steven often feels is misunderstood about breathwork is that it’s not about the breathing. Rather the breathe is an entry point into your inner world. It allows you figure out what’s alive for you, what’s true, what’s real. And that the same concept applies to other healing modalities too.

Steven is a London based Breathwork Facilitator who helps people feel safe enough to re-establish their relationship with themselves, others and the world around us through breathwork and somatic therapy. He has a background in Clinical Psychology, is an accredited Coach and is currently training as a Cranio-Sacral therapist.

    Expect to hear about:

The evolutionary factors behind men’s lack of engagement in therapy
Steven’s background in psychology, experience of talk therapy and ultimately finding the biggest benefit in somatics
How healing modalities are just a route inwards to figure out what is alive for you
Defining breathwork and it’s different types: functional vs therapeutic
What Cranio-Sacral Therapy is and how it works
Why is it that we can accept certain things we do not understand, e.g. WiFi technology, but have doubts about others? E.g. the body’s innate ability to heal
The reality of struggling as a learning practitioner. Frustration and resistance to surrendering. Learning to trust the process

As always, I adore receiving your DMs. Pop me over your thoughts, feedback and questions. @carlamcgreevy1 on Instagram.

Exploring the Power of Psychedelics: My Experience with DMT and Ayahuasca

Exploring the Power of Psychedelics: My Experience with DMT and Ayahuasca

Here’s my story of how I went from being super anti-drugs to having two very profound experiences with two different psychedelics: DMT and ayahuasca.

This episode is a very vulnerable share because the topic of psychedelics creates a lot of debate. My intention is just to be completely honest about my experience and share what I went through.

Information and education is power. I want to share to highlight what psychedelics can offer.

    Expect to hear about:

What DMT and Ayahuasca are, when and where they’re used and who by
Beginning to question my conditioning around drugs growing up and getting curious
The importance therapy and other healing tools played in preparing me for a psychedelic experience
What taking each medicine was actually like and the impact each had on me
The importance of respecting the heritage of the medicine. Ethics and cultural appropriation
My frustration at governments and the value of informing ourselves and coming to our own decisions and opinions

Breathwork is a tool to connect you to your body, which is the source of your power and healing. It is through breathwork and healing that you can become the most magnetic, boldest version of yourself, which I am here to support you in.

I have a four week course beginning on the 3rd of April. This course can change your life is you’re ready. Find out more here!

I’d love to hear your shares, thoughts, opinions and experiences with psychedelic and I’m more than happy to answer any questions: Pop me a DM or email wiseyourselfuppod@gmail.com.

Unlocking the Universe and Healing My Inner Child: A Psychedelic Breathwork Experience

Unlocking the Universe and Healing My Inner Child: A Psychedelic Breathwork Experience

I haven’t always been obsessed with breathwork. I used to be the biggest skeptic. I was allergic to sitting still and couldn’t stand the idea of meditation. This episode is an insight into how I discovered breathwork and my most profound experience to date. Being exposed to these practices has changed my life for the better which is why I choose to bring them into the lives of women now.

Breathwork is the most transformational tool for healing, health and connection to self. You have the same magic in you as plants. There is a theory DMT is activate through conscious breathing which explains why people can have psychedelic experiences.

    In the episode:

Being prescribed yoga and meditation by my therapist to reconnect to my body and treat Complex PTSD
The struggle to meditate and feeling awful
Learning to breathe and the profound benefits it brought, both physically and mentally
Discovering rhythmic breathwork during my YTT in Bali
The situationship that lead me to ocean breathwork (conscious breathing)
    Different types of breathwork

    THE WAVE EFFECT IS BACK

Destigmatising Menstruation: How Katrina McDonnell Changed the Law to Support Women and People with Periods

Destigmatising Menstruation: How Katrina McDonnell Changed the Law to Support Women and People with Periods

This week I have Katrina McDonnell on the pod in honour of International Women’s Day. Katrina is the founder of Menstruation Matters: a non-profit organisation doing amazing work to improve access to period products, support young people through education and destigmatise your bleed.

They run period empowerment workshops, distribute free products to those that need them and successfully lobbied the government to change law in 2022. What a powerhouse of a woman!

Katrina feels strongly that many of us have a lot of unlearning to do to reconnect with our bodies. The patriachy does not want us to connect to our bodies. When we understand ourselves, we can advocate for what we need and that gives us power - which the patriachy wants to hold over us. She is passionate about helping girls and women tap into their cycles because we’ve been disempowered for too long.

    In this episode:

Katrina’s background and her first taste of activism at university in Liverpool
How Menstruation Matters campaigned and changed law in March 2022 to make free period products mandatory in all public buildings in Northern Ireland
Dealing with judgement as a result of the taboo, stigma and awkwardness that still exists around Menstruation
Shifting attitudes towards talking about periods after being conditioned to be embarrassed about them for generations
Katrina’s personal growth as a result of following her passion, her advice for women and what’s next for the organisation

    Upcoming Events:

Fundraiser in light of International Women’s Day TONIGHT at 7pm to support Menstruation Matters. It’s called ‘Amplify Your Voice’ and it’s all about empowering you to speak your authentic truth. Please consider attending to support both yourself, and a worthy cause! Book here

Ocean Breathwork session with Tension Release Therapy
A really beautiful movement practice followed by a powerful breathwork practice to help you regulate your nervous system and clear the pathway to abundance of self love. Book here

Next week I’ll be talking about my experience with ayahuasca and how I became obsessed with breathwork. Please do all the usual bits and bobs to support the podcast, especially share with a friend. It makes a big difference!

DM me if there’s anything you’d love for me to talk about. I love hearing from you all. This community gives me so much joy. Have a wonderful International Women's Day, chat to you next week.
