An hour-long guided tour of Chichester Cathedral

An hour-long guided tour of Chichester Cathedral

Let me tell you the story of Chichester Cathedral beginning with the birth of St Wilfrid, over one thousand years ago. As I take you on a guided tour of this monumental building, I will show you how the Romans and Normans, and Bishops and Kings of England, have shaped how the Cathedral looks today.

We will explore art in all its forms, from 12th century sculptures, to modern painting from the 1960s, 20th century music and poetry. You will see the damage caused by the actions of Henry VIII and Charles I, and hear the stories of medieval knights and important Saints.

I will show you how both the events of history, and the lives of ordinary people are built into the walls, windows and decoration of the magnificent Chichester Cathedral and you will learn a little about architecture and Christianity too.

    Music:
Thomas Weelkes : The Nightingale, the Organ of Delight
Gustav Holst: Venus, The Bringer Of Peace, The Planets

I recommend that you download the podcast before your visit to the Cathedral as internet service inside can be patchy.
