Welcome to Unfiltered! A podcast hosted by Haley Joyce. Every Saturday, we talk about issues completely UNFILTERED. I give my honest, authentic feelings, never straying away from discomfort. I started this podcast to discuss issues that I struggled with during my first semester at college. Since, this podcast has transformed into a type of "spoken diary," reflective of all that challenges me as an individual and a member of society. I hope this podcast creates a space where everyone can find comfort and solidarity in their struggles. Episodes release each Saturday, hope you decide to stay!

Episode 50: Pursuing the Unknown and Educating Ourselves about America's Troubled Past w/t Grace Lee

    Happy Saturday Loves,

Starting off the NEW month with a NEW season! I am so excited to share this episode with you all. Youtuber, Podcast host, and Social Media Strategist Grace Lee joins us today to talk about how she pursued her passion to become a Social Media Strategist, even though it might not be the "normal" career path for someone with a Public Relations degree. We discuss how she navigates her niche occupation, one that is constantly changing and evolving. It was both rewarding and refreshing to hear from someone as accomplished as Grace, about how she pursues her passions. Especially when it can feel as though there is only one way to be successful. In addition to hearing all about Grace's social media expertise, we also reflected on the transformative work Grace has been doing on her Instagram to educate people about America’s troubled, discriminatory past towards AAIP (Asian American and Pacific Islanders) individuals. Grace highlights specific prejudice practices and acts that are engrained within America’s history, such as the Page Act of 1875, and the long history of sexual fetishization of Asian women. I hope our vulnerable conversation can inform, and inspire you to continue engaging in difficult work, and standing up against injustices against anyone, and everyone.

With lots of love and an immense amount of gratitude,

    Haley Joyce

Ep. 49: Finding Positivity Through Being Your Own Biggest Advocates w/t Macy Eleni

Ep. 49: Finding Positivity Through Being Your Own Biggest Advocates w/t Macy Eleni

    Interview Begins at 3:33

    Happy Saturday Loves,

Today I am joined by the biggest ray of sunshine, fashion icon, thrifting enthusiast, and Youtuber Macy Eleni. Macy has such a beautiful energy that welcomes vulnerability and looks for the light in even the darkest of days. She embodies such warmth and brings so much positivity through her inclusive fashion ideals, dance parties, and shimmies. In this episode Macy and I talk about the importance of standing up for yourself, even when you might be the biggest critic. Creating a new way of speaking to ourselves, and finding gratitude even through our struggles. Macy reflects on her extensive history suffering with an eating disorder and reflects on how it really dimmed her light. Moving into a much more fashion forward channel, on Blazed and Glazed Macy now discusses all things fashion, thrifting and inclusivity. Macy rejects the model of only idolizing super thin, white, wealthy models and rather creates a space that involves everyone. Macy speaks about her transition to an account that focuses on honoring each persons’ unique body and individuality - by buying second hand, fun and funky pieces. It was an honor to be in conversation with Macy and I hope you all find our conversation as insightful and impactful as I did.

    With love, always,

    Hale

Ep. 48: Leaving Behind Restrictive Mindsets and Finding Healing Through Nourishment with Ali Bonar

TW: Disordered eating and binging mentioned

    Hello Friends,

Happy Saturday. Today, I am joined by the queen herself, Ali Bonar. Ali is the founder of Kween Granola Butter: “The World’s First Spreadable Granola” and host of Alicast, the podcast. Ali has such a unique gift of saying things how they are, real and vulnerable. Ali invites vulnerability as a means to provide empathy and support. In this episode Ali and I discuss all things related to disordered eating. She shares her story and some of the ways she was able to move towards a more free way of eating and thinking about food. We discuss the immensely harmful effects of eating disorders and the grave consequences of their glamorization on social media. I am so grateful to have had the ability to be in conversation with Ali and I hope this episode can provide some clarity and guidance to anyone who might be struggling with some of these issues and for everyone else I hope this episode can serve as a reminder of the importance of putting all different types of food into your body. Not labeling some them as “good” or “bad.” Finally, with so much going on in the world, remember to take care yourself. Provide yourself grace in doing whatever feels best.

    Lots of Love,

    Hale

Ep. 47: Becoming a Conscious Consumer: Pursuing Your Passions to Implement Change with Allie Lee

Ep. 47: Becoming a Conscious Consumer: Pursuing Your Passions to Implement Change with Allie Lee

    Happy Saturday Friends,

Today I am joined by classmate and friend Allie Lee. In this episode Allie and I discuss the importance of pursuing your passions and becoming a more conscious consumer. Allie talks about her experience with fashion and the work she did with her account in response to Black Lives Matter. Allie truly provided me with a new perspective about fast fashion. Not only prompting me to question where I buy my clothing from, but also why I feel such a need to have so many articles of clothing. Allie is such an inspiration in all that she does to educate others, and share her work. I am so grateful that was able to come and speak with me, and I hope you all love the episode too.

    XX,

    Hale

    Happy Saturday Everyone,

Christina talks about the importance of time with yourself, how to overcome all that is holding you back, and how to start showing up for yourself, and the world. I had such lovely time with Christina and I hope that shines through.

    Have a great weekend.
