Decades of Face: The Seventies, The Encore Decade

Decades of Face: The Seventies, The Encore Decade

For people in their 70’s, Dr. Bass shares the surgical and non-surgical treatments you may want to consider, highlighting how beauty plans have changed in the last few decades.
Many people do a major facial “reset” during their late 50’s or early 60’s. By the 70’s, it may be the last chance to do something major to improve facial appearance.
Sometimes this is a first facelift and other times a secondary or repeat facelift if enough aging has taken place since the first procedure.  Surgery may not be right for everyone in their 70’s depending on health, and current aesthetic needs.  Surgical and non-surgical approaches can yield big results, but there may be some limitations due to loss of skin elasticity.
Maintenance, prevention and restoration don’t stop at this stage. Non-surgical treatments can still make a difference in your 70’s, but you’ll need to invest more time and effort than you did in your 50’s or 60’s.
In this sixth episode of our mini series “Decades of Face,” find out the top cosmetic surgeries, either for the first time or as a second time around, for people in their 70’s. Learn which treatments Dr. Bass recommends during this decade to improve wrinkles, fine lines, volume loss, and skin quality.

    The Manly Way to Beautify

    The Manly Way to Beautify

Men get cosmetic treatments, too. Dr. Bass reveals the most popular aesthetic procedures for men who want to look and feel their best.
As it’s not as socially acceptable for men to modify their appearance, they tend to opt for procedures that give them natural results and virtually unnoticeable scars, such as eyelid surgery.
To enhance their masculine features, many younger men go for chin and cheek implants or body contouring around their chest and abs.
Men focus less on skin care and recurrent treatments, and more on the "one and done” procedures.
Hear how Dr. Bass uses different techniques during certain procedures for men to preserve their masculine features and to hide incisions well despite their short hair.

The Eyebrow: Our Emotion Maker w/ Dr. Jason Bloom

The Eyebrow: Our Emotion Maker w/ Dr. Jason Bloom

The eyebrow plays a vital role in how we express our emotions, so it’s no surprise that many people seek solutions when their brows start to droop, flatten, and lose their shape.
The horror stories you may have heard about brow lift are nothing to worry about today, as techniques have greatly improved over the years.
Longevity is difficult when it comes to the brows as you're constantly battling gravity. Luckily today, injectables and energy treatments postpone the need for surgical intervention and can in turn help maintain surgical results much longer.
Brow lift is a highly customizable treatment. Brow position and shape for men and women are much different, so specific techniques are used to preserve gender identity. Depending on how low the hooding is, a brow lift may be done in combination with a blepharoplasty.
Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Bloom returns to the podcast with Dr. Bass to discuss how brow lift surgery has improved over the years, the most common techniques they use today, and how to decide if a brow lift, blepharoplasty, or both is right for you.

Lifting Without Cutting #4: FaceTite & AccuTite w/ Dr. Sherrell Aston

Lifting Without Cutting #4: FaceTite & AccuTite w/ Dr. Sherrell Aston

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell Aston, who uses FaceTite or AccuTite as a complementary procedure with almost every facelift he does, joins Dr. Bass in the 4th episode of our series "Lifting Without Cutting," to discuss how it delivers more complete rejuvenation.
Dr. Aston often pairs these bipolar radiofrequency treatments with face and neck lifts to address what surgery alone cannot, such as wrinkles or localized areas of laxity.
While FaceTite and AccuTite are in a large class of devices using radiofrequency energy to heat and remodel tissue, they stand out because they deliver far more energy to the underlying tissue and can be more precisely customized to each patient’s needs.
A wide range of people can benefit from these treatments, from young patients with some skin laxity who aren’t ready for surgery to post-facelift patients who want to touch up their results.
Patients appear visibly tighter and more contoured almost immediately after FaceTite or AccuTite, but the results don’t stop there. Improvements in tightness and overall skin quality continue over the following months as new collagen continues to build.
Hear Dr. Aston and Dr. Bass discuss how this cutting edge non-surgical treatment is done, best candidates, what's involved in terms of the experience and recovery, and how it’s shaping the future of aesthetics.

    About Dr. Sherrell Aston
Dr. Sherrell Aston is a professor of plastic surgery at New York University School of Medicine, a past president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and was the chair of plastic surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital for 23 years. He also has run an international symposium that was for many years the largest aesthetic plastic surgery meeting in the world.

Decades of Face: The Sixties, the Renovation Decade

Decades of Face: The Sixties, the Renovation Decade

For people in their 60’s, Dr. Bass reports that this is the time for big beauty projects. Even with a legacy of good preventive and restorative treatments,  surgical rejuvenation is almost always needed to avoid looking worn out and tired.  Dr. Bass shares the options in this fifth episode of our mini series “Decades of Face.”
In this prime decade of business success and social events,  the improvements from facelift and necklift will be seen by more of your friends and colleagues than when you are older.
Non-surgical prevention, restoration, and maintenance treatments continue to be an important part of your beauty plan, but the treatments selected and the parameters used in performing them are modified based on changes in skin biology as you’ve aged.
At this stage, Dr. Bass recommends addressing the most prominent aging changes at the same time as a facelift. Many people pair facelifts with eyelid surgery, brow lifts, skin resurfacing for wrinkles or facial fat grafting in their 60’s.
Hear Dr. Bass’s advice on which procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, to consider in your 60’s to age beautifully and avoid obvious aging signs.

Revolution in Regenerative Medicine: Exosomes w/ Dr. Jordan Plews

Revolution in Regenerative Medicine: Exosomes w/ Dr. Jordan Plews

As our bodies age, our cells are aging with us, and the messages they produce are decreasing. While growth factors have been used to take the message of youthful cells and use them to stimulate the skin, exosomes offer a more complete, natural, and protected version of those messages.
Scientific researcher Dr. Jordan Plews, CEO and co-founder of ELEVAI Labs, joins Dr. Bass to discuss what's happening in the space of exosomes, stem cells, and regenerative medicine as a whole.
Through experiments with stem cells, Dr. Plews and his colleagues discovered that the cells provided some benefit, but they weren’t sticking around or fixing problems such as wounds. This led to the discovery of exosomes, nano-packages that the body uses to send signals to cells.
When searching for the best exosomes to separate, Dr. Plews and his team found that by taking exosomes from age zero stem cells, they can safely be put back into the body to “remind it how to be young again.”
Drawing on his two decades of research in the study of stem cells and regenerative medicine, Dr. Plews explains what exosomes are, how they were discovered, the potential they hold, and how we may be using them in medicine going forward.

    About Dr. Jordan Plews
Dr. Jordan Plews is the co-founder and CEO of ELEVAI Labs, Inc. He has dedicated nearly 20 years to the study of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Following many years investigating the use of various types of stem cells on injury and degenerative diseases, he has gone on to build and lead teams, setting up stem cell culture labs and developing stem cell-based regenerative medicine solutions before pivoting into aesthetics.
