M-Ash Potatoes: A Cultural Introspective Meredith and Ashley

Heyyy Potaytays! Should start off by clarifying that we recorded this episode over a month ago, so if it seems like we're avoiding current issues...well, we likely are in real life, but it was not intentional for the podcast.

After a couple personal updates, we cover some unsurprising yet still appalling instances of white fragility going on around the U.S., we go IN on Sean Penn (he still sucks ass big time), and we beg white women for accountability. Then we do a Pen15-inspired throwback to our middle school origin story, our first impressions of each other and other funny stuff that went on before we became real-deal BFFLs.

POTATO HEADS!!!! We are back from our (unplanned, unannounced) hiatus and we could not be more excited. This (also unplanned) double episode is honestly? SO good. We're so happy to be back that our Ketchup and Hot Potatoes segments take up the whole first hour. We don't want to take the attention away from the topic of anti-Asian hate crimes in the U.S., so all of pt. 2 will be dedicated to that. We awkwardly talk about things we did as younger potatoes that we definitely had no right to be doing and ask ourselves the question: what can we as white people do to make sure we're appreciating other cultures rather than appropriating them? What's up, Potato Heads? Back in the simpler times of 2021, before a mob of violent white supremacists took over the capitol, we had so much to say about cultural appropriation that we made two episodes out of it. In pt. 1, we Ketchup by talking about Bridgerton and then intro our appropriation discussion by dissecting whatever the fuck Hillary Baldwin was thinking when she tried to pull one over on the world and tell us all she's a Spanish immigrant. Next week we get into everyday cultural appropriation and how we can all keep working on appreciating and admiring rather than columbusing* other cultures. 
*Acting like shit belongs to you simply because you're white
