Processing Past Pain | What Christian Dads Need to Learn From Jacob Fathering Our Future

    • Educazione dei figli

I want to discuss something that affects each and every one of us: our past. All of those experiences we often try to sweep under the rug that end up shaping us more than we realize.
We are looking at the story of Joseph but focusing on another character, his dad, Jacob. Jacob's favoritism towards Joseph, born from his own unresolved issues, led to a whole mess of trouble for Joseph and his brothers. This biblical story is one that sadly continues to repeat itself but we often overlook it.
Facing our past isn't exactly a walk in the park but ignoring it won't make it disappear. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it's time we courageously begin the journey to deal with our stuff.
Jacob's story isn't just a history lesson; it's a cautionary parable. His unresolved bitterness seeped into every aspect of his family life, wreaking havoc for generations.
If you're coasting along, feeling the weight of your own past, I'm here to tell you: you're not alone. Whether it's a trusted friend or a professional counselor, there's help out there. And trust me, asking for it doesn't make you any less of a man—it makes you better.
So, Christian dads, let's do ourselves and our families a favor: let's confront our past, break free from its grip, and pave the way for a brighter future. Because our kids deserve dads who aren't weighed down by yesterday's baggage.
