Processing Past Pain | What Christian Dads Need to Learn From Jacob

Processing Past Pain | What Christian Dads Need to Learn From Jacob

I want to discuss something that affects each and every one of us: our past. All of those experiences we often try to sweep under the rug that end up shaping us more than we realize.
We are looking at the story of Joseph but focusing on another character, his dad, Jacob. Jacob's favoritism towards Joseph, born from his own unresolved issues, led to a whole mess of trouble for Joseph and his brothers. This biblical story is one that sadly continues to repeat itself but we often overlook it.
Facing our past isn't exactly a walk in the park but ignoring it won't make it disappear. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it's time we courageously begin the journey to deal with our stuff.
Jacob's story isn't just a history lesson; it's a cautionary parable. His unresolved bitterness seeped into every aspect of his family life, wreaking havoc for generations.
If you're coasting along, feeling the weight of your own past, I'm here to tell you: you're not alone. Whether it's a trusted friend or a professional counselor, there's help out there. And trust me, asking for it doesn't make you any less of a man—it makes you better.
So, Christian dads, let's do ourselves and our families a favor: let's confront our past, break free from its grip, and pave the way for a brighter future. Because our kids deserve dads who aren't weighed down by yesterday's baggage.

    The Secret To Being Happy

    The Secret To Being Happy

Do you want to be happy? According to an expert at Yale there is something that happy people have in common. It is also something that the Bible makes very clear to us: community.
And it's not just about having acquaintances; it's about forging real connections, having people to share life's ups and downs with.
As Christian dads, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle of life, to isolate ourselves in the middle of our responsibilities. But we weren't meant to go it alone. From Adam in the garden to Elijah in the wilderness, the message is clear: we need each other.
So, in this episode, I'm sharing some practical strategies to cultivate community. From joining church groups to hosting game nights, there are multiple ways to connect with like-minded individuals. Notice I said, “like-minded,” not “same-minded.” Too often we remove ourselves from others because they are not exactly like us. I hate to break it to you, you want find many just like you. However, there is biblical guidance for building community even when there are differences.
So if you find yourself struggling to make friends and finding yourself down in the dumps a lot, let me help you by showing building community doesn’t have to be that challenging.

The Greatest Mother’s Day Gift | A Time Commitment to Your Wife

The Greatest Mother’s Day Gift | A Time Commitment to Your Wife

As we approach Mother’s Day we may find ourselves rattling our brains to find the perfect gift for our wives. While it is important for us to get something material, the greatest thing we can give is immaterial; our time.
In this episode, I focus on a crucial aspect of our roles as Christian fathers: prioritizing our wives.
From Ephesians 5, we learn that husbands are called to emulate Christ's sacrificial love for His bride. It's about more than just being present—it's about giving our entire selves to our wives, which requires our time. By making this commitment, we not only fulfill our marital vows but also find a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment.
But why is this so important? Well, aside from nurturing a strong marriage, our actions serve as a tangible representation of Christ's love to our children. When they witness our reverence and honor towards our wives, they gain invaluable insights into healthy relationships and the character of Christ Himself.
Our time commitment to our wives benefits her, us, and our children. Whether it's scheduling regular date nights or simply being fully present in conversations, every effort contributes to strengthening our marriages and enriching our family dynamics.
I want you to be encouraged to commit time to your wife every day and grant her the gift of experiencing a God-designed marriage.

This week I dive deep into one of the most crucial aspects of fatherhood: talking to your kids. From communication to relationship building and discipleship, I'm here to emphasize the importance of those open and regularly occurring chats.
Think about it: communication isn't just about exchanging words; it's about building trust and nurturing relationships. As Christian dads, trust forms the foundation of our influence. Without a solid relationship, our words fall on deaf ears.
Join me as I break down the why, what, and when of talking to your kids. From discussing Bible stories to navigating life's complexities, nothing's off the table. Whether it's a car ride, bedtime, or a special outing, seize every opportunity to connect with your children.
I'll share personal anecdotes, like the time my 7-year old son dropped the "F" bomb and how we turned it into a teachable moment. Conversations like these shape our children's character and faith.
I’m imploring you to embrace open dialogue and lead by example. Together, we'll raise disciples who navigate life with wisdom and grace—one conversation at a time.
